The question now will be why he didn't drop ALL the charges in December.
My guess will be because he's desperately trying to hold on to this case.
Honestly, can anybody think of ONE THING we've heard about this case since the very first day that didn't go against Nifong's case? Has anything been good for his case?

This case went radioactive when Meehan admitted that he and Nifong agreed not to release the information which was favorable to the defense. It went into meltdown on the December 21 interview. I now believe that Nifong is going to have to be involuntarily committed to a mental health facility. There can be no other explanation about his actions.

The question now will be why he didn't drop ALL the charges in December. Maybe he feels that would open him up to a lawsuit for malicious prosecution--and that the risk of such a suit will be lower if he takes it all the way to trial, even if the kids are acquitted.
Just a wild guess. I'm not a lawyer.
