Larry Csonka was a fine back, but I have always wondered if he deserved to be listed among the top tier, as he usually is. I think he averaged 3.9 yards per carry for his career, with about 8000 yards. A lot at that time, but dwarfed by Barry Sanders, Emmett Smith, Jim Brown, etc. Barry Sanders may be the only back who can approach Jim Brown (and I am a huge Cowboy fan, mind you; but Jim Brown and Barry Sander are in a class by themselves.) Sanders gained 15,000 on some terrible teams. To me he might be able to lay legitimate claim to being the best ever.
