January 10, 2007

Paul Tagliabue, Thurman Thomas, Michael Irvin, and Bruce Matthews are among the 17 finalists that will be considered for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame when the Hall's Board of Selectors meets in Miami, Florida on Saturday, February 3, 2007.

Joining these four finalists, are 11 other modern-era players and two players nominated earlier by the Hall of Fame's Senior Committee. The Senior Committee nominees, announced in August 2006, are former Cleveland Browns guard Gene Hickerson and Detroit Lions tight end Charlie Sanders. The other modern-era player finalists include defensive ends Fred Dean and Richard Dent; guards Russ Grimm and Bob Kuechenberg; punter Ray Guy; wide receivers Art Monk and Andre Reed; linebackers Derrick Thomas and Andre Tippett; cornerback Roger Wehrli; and tackle Gary Zimmerman.

It's the same with the Tennessee Titans. You go to their website and they include the Houston Oilers in their history. Sorry but I don't think of Earl Campbell and Eddie George as playing for the same team.

I can't recall the cartoonist - I think he just went to the Sun when NA shut down. But it was so funny (to me at least).

He made full-page cartoons like what Peb does on the DRF for the big days.

But his was full of little gags and references. The '84 showed as if you were on the clubhouse turn looking over the entire track. In the front by the track turn were a bunch of filly "Swale groupies".

Behind the backstretch, you could see this truck. There was a fat face in the driver's window with squinty eyes. The side of the truck said

We specialize in Colts

I know it's sad but it cracked me up!

What? No ex-Steelers nominated? Looks like the PFHOF is slipping.

Trust me - next year there will be serious talk of lifting the 5 year waiting period to induct Cowher.

I heard the Steelers team trainer and equipment manager are also on next years list of HOF candidates . . . . . .

Really? I thought since they changed the name they'd avoid that "whole history" thing.

I mean, we didn't use the "Browns" name and they're totally separate (thank God; who WANTS a stupid name like that that conjures up images of something in a toilet).

(OT: Of course, the funny thing is both our teams have come from "Browns"!)

No, but your next coach was nominated. ;-)

That's what I thought as well. It's interesting how the Brown's history will forever have those "missing years".

What did I miss? Who would that be?

"My father said the hang time on his punts were so long they helped run out the clock."

They never even thought to put a clock on hang time until Ray Guy showed up.

No other linemen should be elected into the Hall of Fame until Russ Grimm AND Joe Jacoby walk through that door.

Agreed. The Redskins could change QB's and RB's but it was the Hogs that was the core of their three SB titles.

Russ Grimm is the O-line coach for the Steelers and is considered to be high on the list of candidates for head coach.

The fact that Art Monk is not yet in is a travesty.

Not only is Drew Pearson not in the HOF (though Lynn Swann is with very similar statistics) he is not even in the Ring of Honor.

Yeah, well the guy was jack kent cooke's butt boy and pretty much despised outside of D.C.
If not for Al Lerner, Balto. would still be without a team.
Biased? You bet I am. :-)
