Capping literally years of speculation on perhaps the most intensely followed unconfirmed product in Apple's history -- and that's saying a lot -- the iPhone has been announced today in collaboration with Cingular. Yeah, we said it: "iPhone," the name the entire free world had all but unanimously christened it from the time it'd been nothing more than a twinkle in Stevie J's eye (comments, Cisco?). Sweet, glorious specs of the 11.6 millimeter device (that's frickin' thin, by the way) include a 3.5-inch wide touchscreen display with multi-touch support, 2 megapixel cam, 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth with EDR, WiFi, and quadband GSM radio with EDGE -- and amazingly, it somehow runs OS X.

No, the iTV is $300. They haven't announced a price for the phone.

If you can prove you paid full retail, Cingular will give you an unlocking code that lets you use the phone with other carriers.

While on the phone he looked up photos in iPhoto and emailed them to the guy he was on the phone with all during the call. And then the music he was listening to came back on when the song was over.

4,000 lattes, actually. It was supposedly a wrong number, but still pretty funny.

OK, the $299.00 and February were wrong. I just looked at the NYSE broadtape and this must have been how I got messed up:

Someone must make some sort of mini flat folding keyboard to match with this. Darn, I just gave away another good idea. Don't feel too bad, several years back I told an Apple employee about pinching thumb and finger on a touch pad for sizing and gripping...

I don't think it matters yet, because Sprint is CDMA instead of GSM. At least that is how I understand it.
200 patents for it. That is insane.

Thanks, I also had that keyboard for the Palm V. But the problem was that one didn't always carry it everytwhere.
Some bluetooth external keyboard will no doubt be available via Apple or a third party and be very small and easy to fold/carry.
Thanks for the link.

I can put my hand against the hand of most third-grade girls and they are usually either the same size or the child's hand is bigger than mine. I am average height for an American woman, but have junior-sized hands and feet. So the usefulness of things like this iPhone depends on the size of one's hand.

Price on this is $299.
Sold.
OK, Steve. Where do I get one?
To: GretchenM
The thing is one big touch screen, so hand size actually matters less than you'd think.

Price is $$499 4GB, $599 8GB. Ships in June.
To: Terpfen
You don't need Cingular to unlock the GSM phones.
There are a number of services which will do it for you by provideing the code for less than $5.
Also there is software out there too.
There is no reason Cingular needs to be a gate keeper on your property.

The iTV is $299, not the phone.
