WORD FOR THE DAY, TUESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2007, BAILIWICK
Merriam-Webster | 01/09/07 | Slip 18

Tuesday, January 9, 2007, Tuesday, BAILIWICK

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

BAILIWICK

Pronunciation: ‘ba/il/i/wick
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English baillifwik, from baillif + wik dwelling place, village, from Old English wIc, from Latin vicus village -- more at VICINITY

1 : the office or jurisdiction of a bailiff
2 : a special domain

Still haven’t put my bailiwick jail in here, but it will be coming soon to every theatre soon!

You would be in the bailiwick of head hunters. Bring big guns and peace pipe. One or the other might work.

Ohio and FL which was played here in good old West Phoenix? The Gators won by a landslide, didn't they?

Ohio State had a really good first minute. Then things went downhill really fast.

We missed it.

I would have liked to have seen the B-2 Bomber, though. We listened for it, but nothing. That arena is 40 miles from here, thank goodness.

Oh my dear ms. slip, we are into snow and sleet, frozen flowers. This morning at 6:00AM when I got up, the streets were covered with white stuff. So much for flowers. ;(

Sorry.

41-14. They got trounced and I'm glad. My FIL is an alum of Florida but mostly I'm glad because OSU fans were so full of themselves, thinking they deserved a bigger bowl. And the Heisman curse continues.
