A 17-year-old boy in northeastern China was so disappointed with the looks of a woman he met over the Internet that he hanged himself after seeing her face-to-face, state media reported Friday.
The unnamed teenager first contacted the woman -- known by her chat moniker "Qunjiaofeiyang", or "Flying Skirt" -- using the popular Chinese online messaging software QQ, Xinhua news agency said.
The girl described herself as a beautiful 19-year-old and the pair chatted on the Web for weeks before arranging a December 26 rendezvous in the nearby city of Mudanjiang, in far northeastern Heilongjiang province.
The boy arrived to discover the woman far less attractive than advertised and 10 years older than him, Xinhua said.
The boy immediately returned home, lost his appetite, and four days later hanged himself from a tree.

Well you have to understand that in China, there is a great shortage of women. Many women are aborted because families are only allowed one child and most all of them want boys.
So the expression "there are a lot of fish in the ocean" doesn't necessary hold true with respect to girls in China.

The girl described herself as a beautiful 19-year-old See... that should have been his first clue. There ARE NO beautiful 19-year-old girls on the Internet. Trust me on this.

The only blind date I ever went on ended badly. Her guide dog kept jumping onto the table and eating off my plate. So I quietly left while she talked about her knitting projects.

My hubby and I were a blind date. Nearly 36 years and six kids later, we're still going strong.

Very good point. That photo does look a little like kabuki makeup though .... I bet underneath that scowl beats the heart of a lovely nineteen year old.
Okay. maybe not.

Yup. My hubby and I met on a blind date and we are celebrating our 34th today. I think some blind dates can be good. LOL, and if Mr. CremeSaver knows what's good for him he will agree. :O)

This is a disturbing story. The guy had to have a few screws loose to do this.
I have been on too many blind dates to count, all of which went badly, and all of which were arranged by my friends. They always told the prospective date I had a "nice personality". That's a date-killer right there. ;-p

This is sad. You're right, there just aren't enough females for this 10 year old men in China. Imagine how desperate this guy must have been to even look for a girl on-line. I'm thinking this was just the straw that broke the camel's back. He probably just came to the realization that he will never find a girl. (Who know what HE looked like?)
