Well. The only one I thought REALLY had a great grouping was VADM William P. Lawrence.
I was VERY disappointed not to see:
"Once an Eagle" by Anon Myrer
"Witness" by Whittaker Chambers
"1984" by George Orwell
"The Guns of August" by Barbara W. Tuchman
"The Gulag Archipelago" by Aleksandr Isaevich Solzhenitsyn
I was also VERY disappointed to see so many recommending "Guns, Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond. In my opinion, liberal claptrap. At Brandeis and Berekely, but not at the US Naval Academy.
I did like that many recommended "The Odyssey" by Homer, "Master and Commander" by Patrick O'Brian and "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig.
Also in the liberal claptrap category, the Karen Armstrong book that one of them recommended.
Still, if you compared these lists to one from nearly any other university in America, they're infinitely better.
