Chapel Hill WRAL has confirmed that the accuser in the Duke lacrosse case gave birth at UNC Hospitals on Wednesday.
Sources tell WRAL the woman had the baby by Cesarean section. She was not due until February.

Not sure ... defense strategy?
One would think that the press would know this. Not the local press, however. They still don't understand why this case is getting so much attention.
Even worse is that some will start claiming that four weeks early is three weeks late - hence the C section. Three weeks late means she WAS impregnated by those evil Duke boys.
Anyone know the average birth weight of four week preemie?
With her prenatal "care"? I shudder for the health of that child.
Didn't Jakki once say on GVS that the baby was due in January?
I think her handlers have made certain she had free prenatal care, JMO.
To stop her substance abuse problem they would have had to keep her under lock and key. Wouldn't that be...uh...kidnapping?
Surely the State lab will do the DNA work, not Meehan.
May not be low. This is from the march of dimes
What is low birthweight?
Low birthweight is a weight of less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces (2,500 grams) at birth. Very low birthweight is a weight of less than 3 pounds, 5 ounces (1,500 grams).
There are two categories:
* Preterm births (also called premature births) occur before the end of the 37th week of pregnancy. More than 60 percent of low-birthweight babies are preterm. The earlier a baby is born, the less developed its organs will be, the less it is likely to weigh, and the greater its risk for many problems. (Some premature babies born near term, at around 35 to 37 weeks, do not have low birthweight, and may have only mild or no health problems as newborns.)
* Small-for-date babies ("small for gestational age" or "growth-restricted") may be full-term but are underweight. Their low birthweight results, at least partly, from slowing or temporary halting of growth in the womb.
Some babies are both premature and growth-restricted. They are at high risk for many problems linked to low birthweight.

Any substance abuse is going to be an issue though.
Isolating her and denying her family access to their own daughter is IMO a case of kidnapping. I suspect a link to Nifong's wife since she is head of ad litem services in NC.

She gave birh to what?
Yeah - she's been traveling in First Class, not Coach.
'twas a joke, Carolinamom, albeit a bad one... ;>)
I would imagine if they took the baby by c-section this early, precious may have had complications.
Eclampsia is but one possiblity.
If the baby is lucky it will have gone from the uterus to the loving arms of an adoptive family. (A pipe dream, I know)
Not me!
Ping
They'll do blood work up if the baby is a preemie, right?
I don't know what the procedure is on full-term babies.
In my younger days we would have said she is pulling the train.
If the baby weights over six pounds we may find she lied (again) about the conception date.
