The thing is, there was a whole portion of FR thread, if not a separate thread, in which the "reporter's name/alias is brought up; and I can't figure out the winning combination for finding those posts.

Maybe the NYT will send a reporter down to investigate her murder.

Maybe they already have, I say, with one eye cocked.

Just read a blog, maybe the murder was just a bad deal. Maybe this reporter planned to set out to do what Kristiana Bennett refused to do. The sky's the limit, in possibilities and realities, concerning this case.

This blog entry just raised the ante of interest for me in finding the murderer of Denita Smith.

Alia, any other time I would say we were all letting our imaginations run away with us.

Not this time. Anything is possible.

Thank you, Fido969.

Anyone know if these banners are still flying on campus at NCCU?

Rape Case Is Seen as Symbol at Black College in N.C.

DURHAM, N.C. Four banners hang on the front lawn of North Carolina Central University. Hitched between poles a month ago, they have endured rain and wind. In sunlight they are shaded by weeping oaks and at night they are heavy with dew, always there, scrawled with dozens of handwritten inscriptions.

We are with you. We are outraged with you. We will fight back for you.

Audre Lourd said, Your silence will not protect you. We cannot lose our voice.

Rest assured, we will not rest until justice is done, especially the strong brothers. Your Eagle family loves you and is behind you, no matter what.

Kristiana Bennett, a junior with a child and a part-time job, knows what that means. Between classes, she checks on her son at day care. They live in a Section 8 apartment off campus.

Once, in a financially desperate moment, Bennett considered dancing at an adult club -- $400 in a night compared with the $11 an hour she then earned caring for an elderly woman. Ultimately, Bennett decided she couldn't do it. But that feeling of desperation made her relate to the accuser, whom she had met in passing earlier this year.

This mess would end quick if the media did not continue to shield the FA. Why today WRAL plastered the mug shot of a nurse who was accused of stealing percocet. Somethings out of balance.

Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in English as NCCU and was completing her master’s degree in the same subject. She worked as a photographer at The Campus Echo, the student newspaper. She also worked an internship at The New York Times in 2004.

“She really could have done anything she wanted,” said Thomas Evans, an associate English professor who knew Smith. Smith also got engaged recently.

The last time former Echo colleague Sheena Johnson spoke with her, Smith was bubbling about her wedding. Her fiance doted on her, Johnson said.

“He put her on a pedestal,” Johnson said. “He loved her every second of every day.”

Johnson and other college friends described Smith as bright, hard-working and caring.

“This hurts really bad,” Johnson said.

This part of the article didn't surprise:

Maintenance workers at Campus Crossings Apartments found Smith about 10 a.m. at the bottom of outdoor concrete stairs. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was covered with a white sheet, and it stayed there for hours while police tried to piece together what happened.

Gunshots were reported to police about 8 a.m. Thursday, Maj. Lee Russ of the Durham Police Department said. Police responded and found nothing.
