NCCU Police Crime Reporting

(bold mine)

The North Carolina Central University Police Department keeps the community informed of crimes that occur on campus.  On the spread sheet below you will find crime statistics for the past three years.  The crime statistics displays the yearly totals for each category, based on the calendar year.

Criminal Offenses
2003
2004
2005
Aggravated Assault  3 6 7
Alcohol Law Violations 5 2
Arson 0 0 1
Burglary 49 6 28
Drug Possession 12 6
Forcible Sex Offense 0 0 1
Hate Crimes 0 0 0
Larceny 159 197 250

Non Forcible Sex Offense 0 0 0
Physical Assault w/ Sexual Motives 0 0 0

My wonderfully politically incorrect son, who was a Duke ROTC student, an athlete and an outspoken conservative will be there.

He was also a victim of "selective" justice" in Spring 2004 when he was a student of Professor Kim Curtis, one of the Group of 88. She FAILED him for the entire course for turning in ONE paper ONE DAY late. After finals were over, and students were dimissed for the summer, she brought charges against him for Lying with the Undergraduate Judicial Board.

His hearing was scheduled for August 27, 2004 (before classes even started) and he was not even able to present any credible defense. He was found GUILTY and suspended for two semesters.

He was ordered to vacate his West Campus dorm room within 48 hours, and his DukeCard was invalidated so that he could not buy a meal or even get into his dorm room to start moving out.

I have written about him a bit on the KC Johnson's blog, Duke in Wonderland. My issue is not my son's case, it is that these 88 professors are a threat to any student who does not toe their intellectual line.

I am willing to provide documentation regarding my son's case to anyone with a credible interest.

I remember that now. Good catch. She needs to go down. If it turns out the charges are false she can brush it off (hand brushing shoulder motion) just like that. Wanna' bet she can't afford more than about 2 hours of attorney time? Let's see if Duke stands up for their profs better than they stand up for their students.

Is Kim Curtis a Trinity Park resident? If so, there are posts from her on the listserv.

I read through the complaint, LB. Kim Curtis is a first rate horse's rear end and radical nutjob. The legal issue offhand is that Duke figured out a way for Dowd to graduate, changed his grade to a passing one, and he ended up keeping his job offer. Not sure what the damages can be in that instance, though there may be a lot more underlying facts showing that Curtis used her position to make Dowd and other lacrosse players miserable just for sport. There were a lot of rumors in the spring about faculty jumping ugly on lacrosse players in classes, to the point that several of them had to be admonished by the school to knock it off. Even non-lacrosse students got upset at how ugly faculty were. That said, Curtis needs to go through the wringer herself if only to be taught a lesson. Duke must have had some reason to change the grade to a passing one.

As an aside, LB there was also a post on another website suggesting that Duke is having a hard time recruiting basketball players. Other schools have used the Gang of 88 statement to show potential recruits that the Duke faculty is very unfriendly toward athletes. Serious hardball.

The money they're asking for is trivial. The main point here is to haul her butt into court, make her testify under oath, ruin her reputation, prevent her from getting future employment and make her life generally miserable. It's also to have a cautionary effect on the other nutjobs before they shoot off their mouths. University types think they can say anything without consequences. As a Visiting Prof she is not tenured and can be fired right this very minute. This is a serious charge. I think that she should not be allowed to teach her class this spring.

One publication:

K.F. Curtis, "Free Speech Under Attack", The News & Observer (October 24, 2001).

I'll look this up in the archives. Coming just after 9/11, wanna' bet what she's whining about. She's about to learn that free speech isn't free.

We'll have to cool it on the home front
Kim Curtis

In a bit that could have come right from TV's "The Daily Show," the front page of the Dec. 10 New York Times reported that Harlan L. Watson, chief negotiator for the Bush administration on climate change, staged a walkout at the U.N. talks on global warming in Montreal. The reason? "Dr. Watson objected to the proposed title of a statement calling for long-term international cooperation to carry out the 1992 climate treaty."
I wish I could make Jon Stewart's face, but in lieu of that -- huh? He objected to a title?

(snip)

She is about to get a lesson in the difference between theory and practice.
