NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- JaMarcus Russell thoroughly outplayed Brady Quinn and made a compelling case that the mammoth quarterback's next pass should come in the NFL.
As for Notre Dame, it was a familiar meltdown at bowl time.
The Sugar Bowl returned to New Orleans with a Cajun-style party put on by No. 4 LSU, which dominated college football's most storied program in a 41-14 rout Wednesday night that had the Superdome rockin'.
It also gave the 11th-ranked Fighting Irish a most unwanted spot in the record book.
The school of Touchdown Jesus and Knute Rockne now has a more ignominious distinction: nine straight bowl losses, breaking a tie with South Carolina and West Virginia for the most in NCAA history. And this was like most of the others, a double-digit blowout that showed Notre Dame still has work to do if it wants to compete with the nation's best.

That was quite a spanking. That LSU quarterback should go very high in the draft.
It would have been interesting to see Boise St. in that game. I think they would have held it together better than ND did. I realize that showing ND on television is very lucrative due to their large fanbase and TV contracts, but still...
Yeah, but they're getting to be the Susan Lucci of bowl games. Nine losses in a row? It makes me proud to be a Penn Stater when I see that Joe Pa is the all-time winningest bowl coach (now at 22 wins).
SEC football put the smack down tonite. Nice job LSU.
Eighth in the draft would be nice.
Eight.
Eight...yes...has a nice ring to it. {rubbing hands together...}
A lot of those bowl games were blowouts, too. The matchups don't seem very even.
I think that is because ND tends to routinely get the benefit of the doubt and ends up with a higher ranking than they deserve. Therefore, when it comes time for the bowl matchups, any team ranked around the same as ND is probably going to be stronger.
This year, for example, Notre Dame escaped with wins from a couple of games by the hair of their chinny chin chins - - games they were supposed to dominate. Their ranking at 11 was a gift.
Once again Notre Lame proves they are overrated. Their rankings are based on what they did under Knute Rockne.
Stop me if you heard this before:Notre Dame gets blown out in big game,Brady Quinn stinks the joint out and The Offensive God gets totally outcoached
You're probably right. Until they can fix their defensive backfield problems, they won't beat a top ten team. I'm thinking 2008.
Russell's line against UF: 24-41 228 yards 1 TD 3 INTs
And I think Russell is going to be a stud in the NFL. But the Acorn's better beware.
I would definitely choose him over any other qb available.
They should have allowed Wisconsin, but they won't let more than two teams from the same conference into the BCS. Which is another BS rule that is only in there to benefit Notre Lame.
The Raiders can have Quinn (the second coming of Ryan Leaf), the Lions should take Russell.
Their biggest problems are in the trenches.
Don't say that. The last thing I want to see is that guy playing the Bears twice a year. I don't think the Raiders are going to pass on him fortunately. Quinn will be a fine qb in the pros as well I believe.
I'm a Lions fan. Although I think we're ok with Kitna for a few years, while Russell learns the ropes. I don't think Russell is quite ready to step in like VY was able to in Tennessee. Detroit just needs an offensive line.
Poor guy. Well at least you have Florida to ward off permanent depression.
Detroit needs running backs too.
