When he graduated from Penn State as an academic All-American in the spring of 1987, he had a national championship ring and a reputation as a solid citizen who had no legitimate shot of making it in the National Football League.

How is this possible? An NCAA Division I QB can have a national championship under his belt and not get drafted?

The buildup to that Fiesta Bowl had the same feel to it as Ali-Frazier I. It also had similar results. The loser of the contest was the template for things to come while the winner's extraordinary efforts are largely forgotten.

Ah, I thought this was about that awful, terrible, day back in early September of 1906...the horrific game that turned the sport into one that glorified the spearchuckers and runaway ralphs that are so unimportant to the vast majority of plays...yes, I speak of that most woeful occasion, where that hellspawn Cochems unleashed his accursed invention.
