Blundstone boots. We wear them everywhere, but especially in the mud. Thick and waterproof leather.

Cool! Never heard of 'em before but went and Googled and they look really nice. With all the mud around there, I can see where they'd come in handy. I've got some big ol' steel-toed galoshes that I use when it gets really deep, but most of the time I just wear my closed top Crocs like this...

Unless the mud is deeper'n 4 or 5 inches, they do well enough. Plus if somebody steps on your foot, you can jerk your foot out before you get a mashed toe.

Those are better known as "jodphur boots" - have a couple of pairs in the garage, not Blundstones but a local brand.
Around here they are usually worn by the kids, since they're cheap and proper show attire with the jodphurs for the under-12 set.
I have a set of steel toe boots from WalMart for really deep mud, but I'm thinking about a pair of camo Remington wellies for the dog stuff . . . cause they're thin enough neoprene that when it gets hot you can just cuff them down so your legs can breathe.
