Yeah, that would be fun for you to see him run!
Becky
Not sure I see any jamming up there, but I do wish it didn't look like his heel was hanging in mid air.
And Cyn:
How nice to see a horse you raised, turn out so well.
No, not really. I can't imagine someone dumping Golden Retrievers out, especially two nice pups like those. They pretty expensive.
I don't see it in anyone of your's...so there might be something to it.
He does look like he could use a bit of support under his heel. Have you asked your farrier about it? I wonder sometimes if things don't come on gradual and they don't notice, but would if it was pointed out. Just a thought.
One other thing that this farrier did was put an even smaller size shoe on Harley...He commented on how small his foot was for such a big guy. I'm not sure that is good or bad. But he put a 00 on him. Chris was shoeing him with a 1 up till last time and I had him put a 0 on hoping it might help to keep him from pulling them off. Chris always said the biggest mistake farriers made was putting too small of a shoe on a horse...LOL...Now I don't know what to think. I'm going to let this guy call the shots for a while and see what happens. I guess it can't get much worse then it's been already...sooo I don't know anything else to try.
Becky
One thing that I notice with Harley even with the new shoes is the shoe is outside the hoof. Bay's never is... the shoe is even with, or even slightly under the hoof. It'd be near impossible for him to step on it.
Now... Perhaps the side I'm seeing is the outside and there's no way he could step on it... and I did see the part he ground and rounded. But I wonder if it couldn't have been fit a little more under his foot. Is there a reason you know of?
Well, I've always been told that the shoe should over hang enough that you can roll a nickle around the edge. Every farrier I've ever talked to said that.
I did think this guy left a bit more then that, and I almost said something, but I made up my mind to let him call the shots for a while. If I tried to change something he did, and Harley lost a shoe, it could be blamed on my having him do something he didn't want to. I think part of that is Harley as lost so much hoof wall form pulling shoes, and from Chris rasping off so much...
Becky
What I was trying to say is I think part of why there is so much overhand is that Harley has lost a lot of hoof wall because of pulling shoes, and the rasping that Chris did.
Becky
overhand....LOL....I need coffee.
Becky
I think I'll put those children on block. I've given a pass to the thread since the second or third day :)
Very cool :)
I may mention it next time... But I look at other feet like that "good" example you posted and it looks about the same? I dunno. I sortof feel like I have to accept that this is the kind of shoeing my farrier does and it either works or not... If I try to tell him to change it to match some image I have about what it should look like, he might try to do something different and mess up something else. Like this last shoeing of yours with Chris... doesn't it seem to you like when he was asked to do something different (the angles) Harley got worse as far as pulling shoes AND being sore?
Yeah - let this guy shoe and see how Harley does.
The pictures of Harley's feet, the top one is the inside of the foot, the 2nd one from the side is the outside.
Becky
I got it... I was saying about the same thing as you were posting, I think ;~)
yeah, I had thought about that, he did seem to pull more shoes. But keep in mind Harley was progressively loosing more and more shoes before this time, he was sore in his shoulder before this time...and the angles were off when he measured them...
So, I still think Chris was doing "something" not right. now looking at the pictures of Chris's last shoe job, I see a lot of things that I didn't. Are they wrong??? $1,000,000 question?
I definitly think rasping off so much hoof wall was wrong, and I know he did that. Now in the pictures looks to me that the foot on the right is taller then the other...is it just the picture or is he unlevel:) Who know. I do know tho, Harley's feet do look different now, not anything radical, but different.

Several times I've wished that it was mandatory that birthdays be listed over there, so we could know how old of a person we are speaking with...If I think it's a kid, I don't usually respond at all unless I see something unsafe in a picture.
The other day i was looking at some thread, I wish I could find it now because it's bothered me off and on at odd times:), But a picture was posted of a tied up horse, and it was a pretty big, and there was a little girl standing, leaning with her back against his chest, under his neck, and the horse appeared to be sniffing her head...
Good lord, I haven't been able to even remember what the thread was about, is all I could see was this kid getting stomped. It's just hard to imagine people doing things like that....
Becky
Sic 'em!!!
I've really enjoyed watching his accomplishments. I also think it's cool that my name is on his registration, as the breeder.
Oh what sad faces. I sure hope you find their owners.
I agree with you there. I don't even respond to a lot of posts because it sounds like a kid or a know it all teen (or because if I start typing I'll end up calling them something unforgivable). Some of the things I read or see there sound so dangerous or stupid.
