This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I did this search over there: Search Results "jammed heel"
And one of those results led to this thread: Questions about jam's and shears
That is what I thought from looking at the pictures. No, I have never heard of the term "jammed heals". Could there be another term for it. Did he recommend any kind of hoof dressing? My best wishes for this problem to be resolved. Follow his advise and take it easy with Harley, until he adjusts and heals.
I'm just "Texasgal" .. "over there" .. lol
Ah - well good to know now, that you are that person! I had no idea :~)
Thanks for doing the search, I was actually speaking about the horse forum...not the farriers forum...I was just wondering if that is a common term, and if what this guy told me about a curve in the coronet band indicating you have jammed heels is true.
I googled jammed heels and it did bring up one link for equine jammed heels. So it is a common term, I just can't find anything about coronet bands.

It all started here:

Cool! Really looking forward to the pictures now!
Charm is the horse in my avatar .. and I have a few I could post .. but they are from up there .. not from down here.
I should shoot the rest of the roll tomorrow and then I'll get them developed (and CD) so I can post.
So how did all that come about? Did he give or sell you the horses? Had you known him before or did you meet over there? Tell us how it came about!
Actually he and I got into a discussion on the Spiritual thread and then he came to me in pm asking me about my faith and wanted me to pray for him.
He is a vietnam vet, dealing with depression etc. He had 4 horses and his kids weren't interested anymore. We just talked and prayed and read the bible and became friends and he asked me if i wanted the mare and filly.
didn't take him serious at first, turned him down. we talked some more .. he gave his life to Christ on Valentine's day .. my husband and he kicked up a friendship and he offered again .. and was serious.
i paid the shipping, he gave us the horses. the mare is huckleberry bey and khemosabi .. the filly's sire is a bunch of old CMK stuff. I can get details for ya later if you want.
This is the short version .. I really have to finish up here at work .. catch ya'll later!
I think that "jammed heels" is when the heels are too long and they hit the ground at such an angle that they are jamming the back of the foot forward and can cause bruising at the "Seat of corn", which is the "V" shaped place where the bars join the hoof wall at the heels. If it goes on long enough, it causes the bars to become curved instead of straight and I guess they pull the back of the coronet band down with them. No, I'm not a real farrier, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. ;o)
Well, I see from the info in the Farrier Forum that I'm totally off base, so just ignore everything I just said.
Wow, that's such a nice story and such a selfless thing for RegalCharm to do. Whattaguy!
VERY cool story, thanks for filling us in. :~)

I can't figure out how to post the pic so that it will work ?!?!? (duh moment)
Here's a link to my albums .. hers is named Charm.
They are both just beautiful! Good for you!
Of course, I KNEW you would like them ... miss bay arabian lover .. hehehe
Thank you ... they are both nice horses.
He's a really good guy .. we've really enjoyed getting to know him .. We talk on the phone frequently also. Just lonely, dealing with depression. He's also trying to place his 18 year old perch/TWH gelding .. really good bomb proof kids horse ... not much of a looker .. (that's why they call him moosie)
Really nice looking horse!!! I'm very happy for you. Looks fairly large for an Arab? Love her color.
Becky
There is a really good picture of jammed heels on the thread.
