This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well, the storms seem to have all blown over (thankfully) and I'm heading home to feed the ponies. Seeya tomorrow!
~shakes head~
I like the pony's expression in this one, too... but I am far too serious. I get so tense waiting for the click I look all pissed off.
See how hard it is to get a good picture of me? Poor honey. When I take pictures of other people, they never know it so they don't have these contrive expressions. It's a lot easier than trying to pose things. I have a sixth sense for knowing a camera is pointed at me and it makes me look like I'm eating lemons ;~)
Ah - well, glad the storms have passed.... see you tomorrow indeed!
WE are sunny, but very windy so if feels cold. Next week looks good, and the farrier comes tomorrow...dare I hope:)
I just got some good news. Remember this old sway backed mare:
Well I haven't seen her for a long long time, almost right after I took this picture she disappeared. I've been so worried that she may have died. The people that own her do not live on the property, no one does, it's just a pasture for their horses. I was hoping that they may have just taken her home for the winter. I found out today that is where she is. They thought she was starting to look a bit poor, so she's there house living the easy life:)
Becky
LOL,,, I love that first one:)
Becky
Oh, she deserves the easy life... glad to hear it.
Yikes... just now seeing footage on news about how bad those storms today have been. Everyone stay safe.
My lord, she looks like a hammock! Poor old girl!
Loved all the pictures here, praying you all in tornado country stay safe. Talk to you tomorrow.
WE've lived here for 26 years, and I know she has been living in that pasture almost that whole time, because we watched for her babies every year. She's been a brood mare her whole life. I don't think she's had one now for quite a few years, but she's had alot. And they've all been so different. Buckskins, paints, one a true black.
We've enjoyed seeing them, and I've missed seeing her there.
Becky
Very good news. Hope her recovery goes quickly :~)
Hey, I just saw on the news that there were some nasty tornados in Alabama. I hope that you're all right.
Everyone there OK?
Becky
Farrier comes today:)
I'm writing a list of questions to discuss before we start nailing new shoes on..if there is anything you all think I should ask, since you know the whole history of this I'd much like to hear. What would be your concerns.
1. I want him to tell what he sees wrong if anything with the horses hoofs as they are now?
2. I want to know what size he is going to put on.
3. I want to know if something is wrong with the trim/shoe how many shoeing cycles does he think it will take to get the horse right.
4. I want to talk about Harley's big stride, overstepping his front foot, and how he would correct that with out soreing up his back, if he has even ever heard of that. (Remember the vet said part of Harley's sore back was that we had shortened his stride too much and he lost support in his back)
5. Ask if there is anything wrong with the horses feet, does he think it could be the reason for the current problem with the shoulder.
I know the answers to these are going to be his opinion....but I want to know them before...so I know where he's coming from...
Becky
Glad the surgery went well! Prayers for an uneventful and speedy recovery.
I am fine. We spent the last hour of work in our "safe place" here at work. At 5:00 my route home looked clear so I left. Most of the weather was south. It was hairy driving home in the torrential downpour but once I got home it was barely sprinkling. Beautiful today.
I'd say that they're all excellent questions to ask. Good luck! I might ask what his policy is with working as a team with your vet should other problems arise. (Not that I'm trying to jinx you!!)
LOL...You haven't jinx me any more then I'm jinxing myself:)
Becky
Good Morning and Happy Friday!
