The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Just a few more pics with TheNewCamera...

A good luck present that one of the barn kitties left me. It apparently didn't work very well for the rabbit though...

Silly Sally, the other barn kitty...

Yesterday's sunset...

No, sadly it doesn't, it uses lithium-ion, but they're in-camera rechargable so that's not quite so bad.

My Digital camera has lithium rechargable batteries and I used it 4 days up in Big South Fork and did not loose my charge. I did not do any video clips but still 4 days without a charge was pretty good I thought. We also took it to Utah with us and took over 400 pictures without a charge.

Good Morning.

Raining here, better than snow.

Duchess, very nice big, red colt. Maybe like his granddaddy or is it great grand daddy?

Frog, the new camera is takes awesome pictures. The small is size is a plus.

Well, schools down here are all closing around noon in anticipation of bad weather. Tornado watches have been in effect since early this AM. I was woken up at 2:30 by thunder and then again at 5:30 with hail.

Great pics of foal, kitties and other assorted things. Hope all of you in the areas where bad weather is predicated stay safe!

We're supposed to get above 50 here today and it's the first time the horses have been turned out in over two weeks. I expect to see eyeballs poking out of walking mud pies when I go to feed.

It's the same up here. The Lawrence County schools were cancelled early this morning, before they even started. When I was watching the radar this morning it looked really bad down your way, but not so bad up here yet. I think the worst of it will be late this afternoon and early evening, right about going-home time. I'm not looking forward to it!

Well they didn't list any of the counties up this way either, but we are definately under a tornado watch, so maybe they just list the counties that are in their viewing area or something.

It definately pays to know where the nearest hole in the ground is when it gets like this.

No, cause Montgomery, Marshall and several others are not in the viewing area. I don't know what determines it.

I just got back from lunch and a trip to Wal-Mart and the tornado warning sirens were going off the whole time I was in there. It kinda creeped me out. It didn't look bad outside or anything so I don't know what the deal was. They've given the all-clear again, for now anyways, but it looks like we're in for on-again off-again storms for the rest of the day.

I'm glad that you had a good ride aside from on the way back. The Appy that I usually ride is either barn sour, or just really smart, I can't decide which. When we go out from the barn he's fine, and he's the best horse that I've ever ridden on the trail.. He'll go through anything. But as soon as we turn to go home, he's rarin' to go and does the same thing that Bud does, only he doesn't give in as easily, and with throw a temper tantrum. He's never done anything really stupid like buck or rear, but he will jig and prance all over the place and break into a "running trot" that's half way between a fast walk and a trot. If we've been fighting about that for a while, and he's still trying to sneak under my radar, he'll break into a real slow, nice comfortable jog. :-p

Stay safe, Frog. I could never live in an area where there's need for tornado sirens. I'd be lookin' at the sky all the darn time.
