The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

What a cute box of chocolates!

That one at the lower left is going to be a MOOSE.

The top three are quite intent on something, especially the one at the top, who has a very interested tail.

How many boys and how many girls?

Two boys and six girls. I think Bob is going to have the owner/breeder pick out one for us but when I talked to the gentleman last night he said he would send pictures as they grow. I want to pick out one myself :)

God made 'em cute so you don't kill 'em when they do something REALLY bad.

Miss Ruby sneaked upstairs while I was busy with something. When we discovered her, she was lying in the middle of our bed, bolt upright like a Sphinx and VERY proud of herself . . . she had disemboweled an entire box of Kleenex from my nightstand and scattered the remains of the box and the contents in tiny pieces ALL over the bed. And was chewing on a mouthful to boot.

I wish I'd gotten her picture -- I was laughing too hard, and my husband was swearing, and I was cleaning up the bits and sweeping them into the trash. Her expression was priceless . . . "I did it! It was tons of fun! Want to watch me kill another one?"

We'll see! - we may not want it... we have a pretty easy life now, not sure I want to get up and be somewhere by 0:dark:30 every morning or work 10 hour days, but if they want a reasonable amount of our time, it has the potential to be really good.

:) Well, I've lost what was left of my mind and agreed that we (Bob) will get one of the females. She is a pointing lab. Bob really is a smooth talker.

I've been watching the saga of Harley and his shoes and imho the farrier is the problem. I sure hope this new one will work out.

Thanks, it was just hard to change after all the years he's been shoeing for me, but now that it is done, I'm feeling a bit positive....

We had the same farrier for 7 or 8 yrs. He started out great and even kept my mare sound, did corrective shoeing on Sweetie and treated one of the fillies who sliced off part of her hoof and we couldn't get a vet out until the next day. He was a good friend and even attended our wedding. Somewhere along the line, he got stuck and stopped paying attention. The last two years he did our horses, Bob tried and tried to talk to him but he knew it all. We finally had to find another farrier to keep the horses sound and competing.

Thanks! I've had people ask me if he has clydesdale in him. Nope, he's a registered paint.

How is your sister?

Good Morning.

Hair, the job sounds very interesting. It would be very exciting to work on a Throughbred farm. Good luck with your application.

We had a very similar situation with a farrier who did our work for at least 15 years. Making the call to let him know we needed to go in another direction was difficult, but he just didn't care about his work anymore. And he wouldn't work with the trainer on things needed to help the horses.

I suspect these things, while uncomfortable, are not all that uncommon.
