The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh dear... Poor woman. Very frustrating for you because the answer is obvious. Another hour to think about it is going to make her worse. She's psyching herself out.

I thought about her last year as poor woman, but now...well, I've lost patience. She just won't listen to anyone tell her anything, even when her way is so obviously not working.....

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I just went out to saddle Harley and he is missing a shoe...@#$!% $#@%^.....

I'm so mad.....

What to do...call the new farrier and see if he can come before next Wed. or wait, and maybe have Harley wear the foot out so much it will be a problem....

Ohfercryinoutloud.

Well, I'd call that new farrier and see when he can get there.

I'm so sorry...

Oh - and she can be a "poor woman" and it'd still be fair to lose patience with her. You're not a therapist, you can't fix what's driving her if she won't listen to "just face your fear and go".

I did go ahead and call him. I left a message on his voice mail...hopefully he will come before next Tues.

Julia called...I wish I could have reached thru the phone:)...she took a tranquilizer, feels much better and was going to come...I guess in one sense she did face her fear:) I just have trouble dealing with people who are that weak minded.

Hair, shouldn't a shod horse be able to run and buck and play out in the pasture without loosing a shoe??? I think so.

I also called Chris and told him I had another farrier coming next week so cancel my appointment with you. Hopefully this guy's shoes will stay on. He asked if Harley had pulled more shoes, I said YES, and he said will OK, and hung up.

Over the years I've had trouble with getting water to the horses because my hose has to cross the drive way, and since it always gets run over, I've always got leaks, which lead to low pressure to the barn, muddy driveway, wasted water, etc. Well yesterday I finally did something about it, but am wondering how this will hold up. I bought some PVC pipe, and fittings. I buried the PVC pipe across the driveway, the ends stick out either side so the hose can connect to it. Will the PVC pipe hold up with cars going over it.

Well DANG Becky! I hate to hear about the shoe. That's really aggrivating. I'll bet he pulled it off doing all that dipping and dodging through the trees. Those were great action shots by the way! It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and call the new guy. You might luck up and he might be available early. As for Julia, I don't blame you for being irritated at her. She's obviously really afraid, so you hate to tell her to just suck it up and get over it, but then all the drama really gets old after a while. At least you can come in and gripe to us though.

I don't know if the PVC will hold up or not. It may at first, but may become more brittle over time.... we'll see. It might help it if you buried a 2x4 on either side of the pipe, so it doesn't bear the weight, you know what I mean?

Absolutely. If he's stepping on shoes, he's not moving right. And that may be the fit or the trim or something about him that is harder to fix. Maybe he should wear bell boots all the time. I dunno.

My SIL says as long as it's "schedule 40" it should hold up ok.

Harley looks awesome! So sorry about the shoe. How frustrating can you get!

Your camera just does so great, catching action.

Hey, now that's a good idea....Yeah, I know what you mean. The 2x4's should be just a tad higher then the pipe.

I can't compete in bell boots.

I'm thinking that jerking this shoe off so many times is why his shoulder keeps getting stiff...that has to hurt after so many times.

Hey, you put it so well..."all the drama really gets old" that's exactly how I feel, I just couldn't put it into words. There is no shame in admitting you can't do something. And besides how can anyone enjoy something they are that afraid of...

Thanks for letting me gripe, it may save her from my wrath:)

Hey, that's a good idea! If you buried it deep enough it ought to hold up, but even if it's not, it's bound to be better than driving over a bare hose.

Do you ever watch the show Cash and Treasures on the Discovery channel? Last night they were mining Sunstones in Oregon? Very interesting. The host found a stone that after being cut, was worth over $5800! Not bad for a few mins work, if it was all true.

No, but he's not pulling shoes riding, so much, is he? It's when he's goofing off in the paddock. Maybe it's when he's loose he needs the bell boots to at least save him from himself.

Agree on the shoulder. I'd think so.
