The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yikes, OK - glad all is well there so far, appreciate you checking in! We've got a little system coming through here that might have amounted to strong winds, but it hasn't so far, I think that's in Oregon.

So did you get the strong winds..

Wow, my last post said I thought it was dying down, but I was wrong. I think it was just taking a breather to gather strength. We survived with no problem, except a blown over mailbox:), but it was sure blowing. I went back downtown in the evening, and we really started worrying about the big windows in Mack's office....personally, it scared me, they were really rattling and bowing in. You always think...we'll they've survived this long...but at some point I'd think they could go. These windows are original to the building so are not safety glass:\. If it wasn't soooooooo expensive I'd like to replace them. We are always having to run skateboarding/bycicling kids off the sidewalk attached to our building..they scare me to death doing all the jumping and tricks off and onto the step. They look at us like old foggies, when we try to explain about the windows, and what would happen if they fell or crashed into one....Anymore I don't even try to explain, I just tell them to get the h.... off my sidewalk. No sense being nice when they are going to hate you anyway:) Hmmmmm....kind of got off on a rabbit trail rant didn't I:) those windows just worry me. We've got our kids trained to stay away from them, and not throw balls or such by them. Macks desk sits right in front of one, and it looked to me last night the worst of the ones bowing inwards....

Enough:)....

Today looks like a very nice day a lot less wind, I'm thinking of working the the garden...I'm getting the itch. Planning on revamping the whole thing this year. I'm going to stop messing with the exotic stuff and go back to the simple stuff, petunias, impatients, marigolds, lots of blue morning glories, etc. I bought the bulbs I want to plant yesterday, they can start going in in March. But the whole garden needs to be turned over and some stuff dug out. I'm also going to put in a brick edge around the patio. I've had some old old bricks that came out of the roads in the town that I was born in, Pittsburg, Ka., enough to edge the patio. I've always wanted to do something with those bricks but could never think of anything. I saw on a landscaping show how someone else had bricks and used them for an edge. It will give my garden some much needed color in the winter, as they are red, and will contrast with the cement patio. I hope to get that done today. Then during the week next week, get the garden dug up, and then plant the bulbs.

Becky

We never did get much strong wind... Glad your place survived yours! I think those roll shutters that they have in hurricane country are really expensive too... but they'd be good for both protection in winds and security. When we were in Florida I was impressed with all the big money houses on the beach with those roll shutters on all the windows, they could seal it up like the Batmobile ;~).

Good luck with your gardening prep, take pictures, of course!

Morning Becky,

Thanks you for the continued prayers for Philip....................

By the way, my sister, Philip's mother is a horse lover too. She and her husband have horses and they have two small horses to pull a cart. They are making a Western Village on 30 Acres. The Bunk House is Awesome, they have a tack room attached to it also. Will be working on the livery, sheriffs office etc. this summer.

Sorry about the broken arm and back problem. Back problems really keep you immobile. Have to give backs a rest a rest.

Great success story on the wt loss, keep up your determination, you'll Getter Done.........Just Claim It.

Thank You for the support for Philip, I'm going to write him a letter telling him about all of you and your kind words and support for him. These things keep the soldiers mental clarity in the right spot.

Thanks again
Maureen

Hi,
(Even if they were vague, I think it's good news that they were able to send him right back, I think. I pray he stays safe from here on out...)

You are right, my sister thinks the same way as you. She was thankful that it was minor, we're still scratching our heads on that one, (but know he is being looked after with all these prayers and support for him) Thanks for the prayers for him till he returns home.

Oh that's right! I had forgotten about that project of theirs. You will have to take me to their place some day, so I can get some pictures. The village would be awesome to see.

Western saddles are just so darn heavy. One of my old trainers used to have a heavy roping saddle and I used to HATE lugging it around. (She kept it upstairs in the tack room to boot) Even a dressage saddle with a stepstool is a challenge for me with this warmblood though, because it's a fine balancing act getting up on the stepstool and not getting knocked off balance by the weight of the saddle and tipping into the horse. :-p

In other news, I'm finally moved, (yay) even though I don't have my own computer set up just yet. (It should have been the first thing to get set up, but I've been busy with other things) And I stopped by to see my trainer yesterday, and I set up some regular riding time with her. (Finally)

Shouldn't be much longer, huh? Cocoa still lives. My computer is working now so I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. I don't want to do it on my husbands. My husband...he bought a new Dodge Ram truck. He won't let anyone but me drive it and I won't. The dog though...she rides shot gun:')
