This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
What part of Texas?
Houston
I will need to learn how to post pics. As for the length of stay, I think I'm on a long-commute, as my daughters (19/23) are still in Canada and there are a lot of things to settle there, so I will be back and forth but my hubbie's job is permanent here.
Welcome to Texas and the thread. I'm in Brownsville. I lived around (but never in Houston) years ago. I have lot's of family there.
Where abouts in Canada is your farm? I think that SOMEBODY here on the thread lives in the Houston area, but I can't remember who that is right now. Tuffydoodle lives in the DFW area and Squarebarb lives in the panhandle area (I think). I live in NW Alabama. You can click on my screen name and see my profile page with pictures of all my critters if you want, but I gotta warn you that there's a lotta pictures there so it may take a while.
I think Squarebarb is in the Texas Hill Country, down around San Antonio.
Yeah, I'm a doofus. I shoulda looked up exactly where "Hill Country" was before I said that. I should think first and answer later! ;o)
I remembered where she lives because I love the Hill Country. Prettiest part of Texas, imo.
I had heard the term for a long time but never knew exactly where it was. I looked on a map and the whole western part of the state looked pretty hilly to me but I don't know why I thought it was the panhandle area. You're right about it being pretty though. I've never been there, but a lot of magazines like Country Living and Country Home have done articles about homes and ranches in the area and I've always thought it was just gorgeous.
Prettiest part of the pandhandle is Palo Duro Canyon.

There's some cool pictures on that site. Thanks!
Where in Houston? North, South etc
Welcome:)

It's very over cast here today, and somewhat chilly. I'm playing with JP today, and we are only staying outside for short periods. He's napping right now.
Next weeks forecast looks good for the start of the week. Celia is on vacation so we hope to get a good start on conditioning horses.

Well hopefully you'll be able to get a good week in. I'm planning on riding tomorrow at the rails-to-trails. That should be a good easy 15 miles, if we ride the whole thing end-to-end and back. And since it's been raining so much here lately, it'll be doubly good because it has a good hard crusher-run road base. Everywhere else will be a mud bog. I haven't decided who I'll ride yet. I rode Bob last, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and I think I rode Grace before that, but I couldn't tell you when that was. So I guess I'll ride Hope this time. I think the last time I rode her was back in late September. I've got too many horses!
The times i've had more then one horse, I always had trouble decideing which to ride because I always liked one more then the other(s). Lots of times when I knew I should be riding one of the others, I's land up not riding at all...like that makes a lot of sense:)
Took me years but I finally figured out I'm a one horse rider:)

If the link doesn't take you right to the picture, it's ad #089764
That is why, I am afraid sometimes, of posting pictures. You never know who is going to steal them.
I will add you to the ping list.
