This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
A whiffle bat makes a hellacious amount of noise - and it doesn't leave marks! ;-)
The wall in the basement is suppose to be finish today. A fire will sure be nice with this cold weather we are expecting. Although, it is going to be in the high 30's today. The prediction for next week is very cold temps.
Have a great weekend!
Good morning all! Gonna be a nice day here, hope everyone has a good weekend!
Becky, I really like the paint in your bedroom. I liked the red too though but it would have required a lot of white, chair rails, trim, etc.
Estrogen, congrats on the property.
CindyDawg - yep, I'd have been looking for a gun too :)
AnAmericanMother - I really hope to get pictures of Blue this weekend. I did take some last weekend but in the house so it's hard to see him, he sort of fades right into the dark carpeting.
Hair - read about another mountain lion attack on the CA/OR border, hope you guys go armed on your hikes.
I have a new family member. I'll get a pic later. She's a choc lab puppy that my husband brought home. I tell her that she is his dog and I can't take on any more responsibilities right now, so stop following me around and sleeping under my desk but she just looks at me with her green eyes and puts her head back on my shoulder.
Good momring all. I am off in about an hour for the Montell-San Antonio trail ride, don't think I will make it all the way to San Antonio.
I am loaded up and ready to go all I have to do is roll up ther awning, later SB
Oh boy - you've been hanging around me too long :) So when do we get a picture of the new addition?
Have a great time.
We need pictures of the new pup!
Indeed! We need pictures from the trail ride too!
Took these pics, the lighting was a little harsh for a couple of them to turn out good, but I think you can tell he feels good, so that's the important thing. Last year he didn't start out this good. I'm really encouraged! He's not been on Bute since the one time after the storms last month when he'd been on his feet outside for a week.
I started him out on the line to get him into the lunging mode...
Then turned him loose. He really does a lot better when he can do his own turns, it makes a big difference in how he moves... I'm just impressed that he'll lunge this way at all and doesn't take off.
Here he's spooking at a soft spot in the dirt... I didn't tell him he had to go right there... ;~)
Even set up one little cavaletti. If his feet can do this, it's really good for his back... I think he was good today, notice he's back on the line though, he wouldn't do this loose, he ain't that good... he'd just stop and turn around... ;~)
Hey, that soft ground might be hiding a hole that will swallow him :)
He's got a big trot, he can cover ground! :~)
I'm pleased... And I think when he has his spring vet check this time the vet will be impressed! Last spring, I was fussing about him not looking very spry if you recall, though when the vet was here he checked out OK.
I think he's going into this year in good shape. You done good :)
Well, every nice day I've got to go get him moving I think... he's bored, he had a good time doing something :~)
And I want to go do a lot more walking on our trails and drop some weight. If I could bring him just to follow along, I would!
Working him is good for his body and his mind. I think horses get bored with nothing to do.
Got Friday up at the barn now. She isn't due until sometime after the 7th, but you know us. We can't help but start the worrying early :)
Friend says it's a filly, name is Sarah and she's white with a red spot on her forehead - we'll see. It would be cool to have a few spot leopard and I pray it's a filly, we don't need any more colts around. Bob is still complaining because I sold Red and throws a fit if I discuss selling Tuffy.
Friday is such a looker, I'm eager to see the foal... and this is by your Secretary, right?
Keep us posted on foal updates!
Yes, this baby is sired by Secretary. Hope it has some of it's mom's looks and it's dad's brains.
Ok guys, I have a problem. George is unable to eat his hay. It's ending up in big, chewed up clumps on the floor of his stall. I was watching him tonight, it appears all he's doing is gumming it. What do I do? I soaked him a few alfalfa cubes, made it into a soft mixture, which he ate, but alfalfa is too rich for him. He needs grass hay. Anybody know what to do? How do you feed a senior, senior horse? Oh, he won't eat beet pulp, I already tried that months ago.
