We're gonna have to switch over ourselves and check that out.

I'll bet a lot of the lighter feeling had to do with the limbs being ripped off the trees like they were in your yard. Even I could tell a difference in the pictures of the trees around your house, just based on the pictures you'd posted before. You could see a whole lot more daylight there too.

We're gonna go again, maybe go further :~)

Lots of limbs down, yes, but so many trees down too. It was windier there than it was at our place, it was like every 4th tree had gone down. Something protected us at our place, some lucky break that had us in a slightly protected location that didn't get the full force. I remember thinking while we were watching the storm that our trees could not possibly take any more than they were getting, just a few more seconds of gust, or a few more mph of wind, and our yard would have looked like the trails did. This has not been an ordinary year at all. I hope we don't get anything like it again soon.

I hope you don't either. I'd hate to see all your gorgeous trees ruined. They're so cool.

Hey y'all, you gotta see this picture, it's absolutely freaky!

The caption says...
"A man rides his horse through a bonfire during the Feast of San Anton, the patron saint of animals in Spain".

All I can say is WOW! That must be one more well trained horse to ride THROUGH fire like that. But the guy needs his @$$ kicked for making him do it! ;o)

Well, you know, that may have been the guy's point, however misguided, that Saint Anton was looking out for the horse and no harm could come to him. I never really thought of it that way untill you said that. But the man still needs his @$$ kicked!

Pinging AAM to post# 1564. You seem to know a lot about the Saints and stuff. I thought you'd be interested in this one.

I just almost got trampled. A horse charged the fence as I was chaining the gate. He hit the side of the gate first and his body opened it up and I went with the gate.

Wow, that's scary! Was he charging with the intent to get through the gate or was there another horse after him or what? Did it hurt you anywhere?

It was scary and after it was over I got mad. It was all a big mud hole by the gate. There were two horses there. I made this one back off and he stood by the fence about 20 feet away. I was watching the other caz he wanted to inch up on the other side. I took Okies halter off and opened the gate and he went in. I was holding the gate in one hand and the chain in the other. I heard him coming . I looked up and he was headed right towards me, along the gate. I'm not sure but I think I jumped back and tried to close the gate. He brushed me and knocked me back as he went by but some how I ended up on my feet kind of behind the gate on one side. It was so fast. My left wrist hurts so I must have not let the gate go which is what probably keep me from falling in that mess. I got mud everwhere.

He wasn't being chased. He went to the barn. I stormed in there yelling" who has a gun? I'm going to kill that crazy horse" They took him and put him back up.

LOL! I would have too. But I'm glad you didn't get hurt anyworse than you did. Your pride probably took a worse hit than anything. But the bad thing is that now that he's done it (if he hadn't already done it before) is that he's probably going to think he can do it again anytime anybody is at the gate. He'll bear watching from now on. Be careful

Oh, I think he knew how this worked. He looked like he had made a hole before. He was real sneaky. Standing there looking all innocent and then charging. Spoilt horse. I think he was just out there til his stall got cleaned. That's ok. We will meet again.

It is so cold out BRRRRR just talked to the builder in Aiken and its 62 and sunny there ....I can't get there quick enough.

I'm just going to go out to the barn tonight and let Waylon run around in the arena for some excerise. I can't saddle him up because by the time I get the saddle and bridle on my fingers are frozen !!!!

MissTargets, are you down by Medina? I know south of us had school called off.

It was sunny here today too but very muddy. Our arena looks like a lake. I looked to see if any places like yours in South Texas but I couldn't find any. As soon as my 401k back I'm putting a down payment on some property I found. I would love to be in an active community though. Either way, my horses (horse)) are moving out after I get things fixed up.

Guess that guy never heard of, "Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the test."

This is the OTHER St. Anthony - not St. Anthony of Padua, but St. Anthony the Abbot (San Antonio Abad). He was the first monastic, was terribly tempted by the Devil, and is the patron of gravediggers as well as horses, mules, and pigs. (If you've ever heard of a "Tantony Pig" - it was named in St. Anthony's honor.)

A painting by Il Moretto, showing both St. Anthonys and St. Nicola di Tolentino. (St. Anthony of Padua is the Franciscan, in gray - St. Nicola is the Augustinian, in black.)

Doggone it, I HATE horses like that!

My trainer used to have one that was just plain mean and would charge you in the pasture. I had had enough one day and bounced a grain bucket off his nose. After that he treated me with a little more respect, but he would lay for you whenever he had the chance. If he felt you the least bit unbalanced on his back, he would buck you off.

My trainer eventually sold him to somebody who wanted to train him for 3 day event. I wish them the joy of him -- he was a big beautiful horse but just crazy mean. She had bred him herself, his mother was a beautiful sweet-tempered Trakehner and the sire was a very nice T'bred stallion, he was gently raised and always treated well. No idea where the killer streak came from.

Why don't you carry a big whiffle bat next time he's out there?

I have a friend who uses that instead of a heeling stick on his Lab. It makes a lot of noise but doesn't hurt.
