Should I upgrade?

HDTV is great. Bigger is better (IMO), depends on how much one wants to spend on a new TV. All broadcast TV will be digital in 2009, so you have some time to make a deceision.

Digital signals are very good, no snow, no ghosting, either you receive the signal or you don't. Fringe area reception will need a larger outdoor antenna if for OTA reception.
(antennaweb.org will show you what OverTheAir TV signals are available in your area.)

I bought a very large Mitsubishi upgradeable a few years back (the same week the DVD for the Fellowship of the Rings was released!) and it was upgradeable to HDTV.

I've enjoyed it more than I imagined, and have become someone who likes to hang around the TV department of Best Buy. I haven't gotten around to upgrading, though I've had a few good talks with the local Best Buy (I must have a really good local Best Buy--I've talked to so many Freepers who dislike theirs) about what I can really expect. I can buy a little <$200 rig that'll make my present movie enjoyment better. I'm not a sports watcher, so much of the HDTV anticipation is not for me. I like watching rented DVDs. But to get HDTV all-around would cost a monthly payment through my DirectTV, and I really don't care to do that.

How does this rig I mentioned help with the movie DVDs? I'm told the same DVDs that I already own will look better. Don't quite understand that. Wouldn't the DVDs have to be on a new format?
