At the support level though, the secretarial "eye candy" factor is more prevalent. We do have some awesome secretaries though and I am referring to the quality of their work! Sorry - I'm a guy, and guys really can't help themselves sometimes. We can be thoughtful and incisive one minute and then put a pretty, well-endowed woman in the room and we go dumb as a box of rocks.

It's funny - I've mentioned before that my rather small, male-dominated employer has an informal policy (which they will never admit to) of not hiring attractive young women for administrative support positions for just that reason. I always thought it was excessive and unfair, and that we might be overlooking capable employees. Lord knows, talent is hard enough to find, and I can't say our HR department's choices have been adequate in most cases.

Well, they finally bent the rules a little and hired a fairly pretty young receptionist to replace the long-time previous incumbent, who left for another company.

And now, watching the behavior of some of my (mostly married) male coworkers toward her, I understand exactly why the informal policy was kept in place for so long. ;)
