Launch XP in safe mode??

Mayhaps permit you to get to the control panel and add/uninstall programs...

Educated guess only....

Your computer is infected with a virus. That virus is called Microsoft Windows, or something spawned thereof.

Seeing that your beard is gray, I can only imagine rubber stock as a wise investment.

Download and run SuperAntiSpyware.

SAS is the most thorough sweeper on the market today, IMO, and may take 45-60 minutes to run, but will fix problems usually only found/repaired by HiJackThis.

Your PC is infected with spyware/ malware. Try ctrl+alt+delete and see if you can close it from the Task Manager. If closing it under the "applications" tab doesn't work, look under the "processes" tab and see if you can figure out which process it is and stop it. Then, download and run a removal tool. Links:

Spybot Search & Destroy

PC Hell Spyware Support

Ad Aware SE

Use the link below to download SuperAntiSpyware:

http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWARE

It's a direct link. After you clean your PC, you can uninstall it if you want. It's 100% free (this version).

---I'm no expert but if you can get to "system restore" in help and go back a few days that might fix it--????

I use Linux, but referring to Windows as a 'virus' helps no one. Especially not Windows users.

Then, after Graybeard58 gets his spyware problem resolved, I say we track down and murder all of the people who inflict spyware, adware, malware, virii, and spam on humanity, and roast marshmallows over their burning corpses.

Or, avoid the problem by using a different browser. Try Firefox, or I got rid of a problem by going up to Explorer 7. Spyware attacks weaknesses in Windows because it is most popular and gives them best results.

I started using Firefox about a year and a half ago and haven't had any problems since.

One can always depend on at least one smart ass answer and it's especially refreshing coming from a noob but really if I want any s##t out of you, I'll simply squeeze your head.

Your suggestion in number 5 seems to have worked, I'm running spy bot right now to get rid of any bad cookies. Thanks.

Especially not Windows users.

I disagree. If they can somehow find a way to escape from that monstrosity, there would be fewer problems such as this.

The problem won't be a cookie, but probably a rogue DLL or EXE. Let me know if you still are having trouble, after running Spybot.

Charming.

Don't hurl personal insults at someone who has asked for help and you won't get "charming" replies.

Seeing that your beard is gray, I can only imagine rubber stock as a wise investment.

I don't normally reply in kind and for that I apologize.
