James Brown's Body To Lie At Apollo Theater In NYC

AP) NEW YORK James Brown's music career will come full circle when his body is brought to rest on the stage of the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, where he made his explosive debut, and the world changed to his beat.

The public will be permitted on Thursday to visit the Apollo to have one more look at a man who helped steer modern musical tastes toward rhythm-and-blues, funk, hip-hop, disco and rap, the Rev. Al Sharpton said Tuesday. The reverend has been a close friend of Brown for decades.

"It would almost be unthinkable for a man who lived such a sensational life to go away quietly," Sharpton said in an interview from Georgia, where he was making funeral arrangements with Brown's children.

Sharpton said the public Apollo viewing will be followed by a private ceremony Friday in Brown's hometown, Augusta, Ga., and another public ceremony, officiated by Sharpton, a day later at the James Brown Arena there.

Just FYI. I saw a report last night on the news, an interview with the lady who was James's makeup artist for the past 25 years. She's a very sweet and humble lady who was telling how kind and generous her boss was. She is of Navajo heritage.

James knew this and one time gave her an incredibly beautiful one-of-a-kind handcrafted necklace made by a Navajo artist. He knew this about her and wanted to give her something special.

Now, he couldn't have been all that bad, keeping a nice lady like this in his employ for 25 years. A lady who speaks well of him, who began to cry as she showed the necklace she was wearing: several rows of beads, holding a cross made of inlay of several kinds of stones.

Are you watching the funeral on CNN? It's really quite moving.

Go away and find something else or someone else to trash. Oh wait, you already did that to the President...

I thought this was a "busy time" for you... you sure get around.

Hint: There are people here who have respect for the dead. Criticizing a funeral is a cheap shot.

"The bottle" has never even been in my arena of considerations. It's odd that this possibility occurred to you instead of considering that I just might not think like you.

I don't recall ever having called you a bad name or insulting you in any way.

I'm amused when I run across the odd poster who has determined just HOW other posters should think--or post. You and I are obviously different (I am just as grateful for that as you are.); but we are both FReepers. There should be some shared respect in that. I'm sorry that you don't feel that way.

I'm also sorry that the idea of "the bottle"--or any substance-abuse concept--was what you thought of when you disagreed with me. That's a sad statement about you.

It's a statement about your behavior.

Show some respect to the subject at hand, and I will not bother you.

Also, have another look at your own homepage. You simply enjoy "stirring it up" with no purpose or no particular reason. That is truly annoying.

I didn't start with you. I made a comment about believing that it might be good if the President--whom I admire entirely--were at the funeral. I admitted that I did not realize that he would appear at the final ceremony. I'm glad for that.

I was attacked because I was not INFORMED enough. Much of my information comes from this wonderful website. Among friends, I would assume that I would be informed when I make a mistake--as I did in being uninformed. I believe myself to be among friends while on this website.

Now, I am MUCH more informed. BTW: I am an extreme admirer of President Gerald Ford and his wonderful wife. Part of my time in the military was under this great man as my Commander-in-Chief.

Enough with you, bannie. You've made a notable attempt to ruin the day but failed at it. I will not post to you again, and ask that you do not post to me.

Good night and God bless.
