AP) NEW YORK James Brown's music career will come full circle when his body is brought to rest on the stage of the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, where he made his explosive debut, and the world changed to his beat.

The public will be permitted on Thursday to visit the Apollo to have one more look at a man who helped steer modern musical tastes toward rhythm-and-blues, funk, hip-hop, disco and rap, the Rev. Al Sharpton said Tuesday. The reverend has been a close friend of Brown for decades.

"It would almost be unthinkable for a man who lived such a sensational life to go away quietly," Sharpton said in an interview from Georgia, where he was making funeral arrangements with Brown's children.

Sharpton said the public Apollo viewing will be followed by a private ceremony Friday in Brown's hometown, Augusta, Ga., and another public ceremony, officiated by Sharpton, a day later at the James Brown Arena there.

I doubt he ever said that. I have met him many times years ago and he was VERY humble and nice.

Talk about creeps...Brown's lawyer had his wife and child locked out of the house. The lawyer claims that their marriage of 5 years was not valid.

That is cool, Suzy Quzy. Yep, it would be just like Sharpton to come up with something like that, or maybe James was just kidding around.

Reminds me of the Battle Hymn of the Republic......"James Brown's body lies amouldering on the stage..."

Apparently, this viewing at the Apollo is Sharpton's idea, and ol' Rev. Al just grabbed the spotlight right quick as soon as his friend died, didn't he? Sharpton is shameless.

That said, I once had a 33 live LP of one of Brown's shows at the Apollo.... Please, Please, Please and all ... it rocked more than anyone could imagine today. We wore that platter out until it melted or fell apart. LoL.

I generally agree with you my friend, but Brown still put on a tremendous show from what I have heard from people who had seen him the last few years. He also had a top ten single in 1985, "Living in America" and put on a heck of a performance in The Blues Brothers.

The "Hardest Working Man In Show Business" was a proud American. Brown did defuse some of the situation after MLK was assassinated, advising many black youth to recall King's legacy of non-violence and not participate in riots, etc. He supported Nixon and entertained troops in Vietnam, all for which he was maligned by black libs.

Like all men, he had personal demons he allowed to tarnish his legacy. Such is the wage of sin. But RIP Godfather of Soul.

He's a rock & Souler, so the personal demons I can abide by. Like I said, RIP.

I remember several years ago he got pulled over and arrested for driving while stoned and having a stash of pot. He was quoted as saying "I've got bad eyes" as his excuse, trying to gain sympathy during the whole "use pot for glaucoma" debate back then. Funny.

Sharpton said. "'Elvis is gone, and I've got to carry on.'"

Al isn't significant enough to carry the capes of either The King or the Godfather of Soul. Hubris, thy name is Sharpton.

He's not really "laying in state." I mean, this is the Apollo Theatre we're talking about. Since it wasn't his idea, I hope he doesn't mind.

The way you feel about Brown is the way I feel about Mahatma Gandhi. Nothing there to revere. Gandhi was a certified, habitual wife beater.. he brutalized his wife both physically and emotionally. He was a mean, cruel little man but most have not done much reading about him and don't know it. What's worse about Gandhi is the pretensions to holiness and sainthood. He was a thorough Hypocrite.

James Brown was no hypocrite. He was what he was. He entertained and when the did the crime, he did the time. I'm not totally defending him, but I'll say he was NOT a hypocrite.

I don't think so. They were dead serious, totally lacking in humor. Actually, they were hotter for Tina Turner...;^)
