CHRISTMAS
STORIES

Tim Burton's holiday classic, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993), makes a return to the big screen each holiday season. The dazzling new make-over of the musical-fantasy was led by writer/producer Tim Burton and the technical wizards at Industrial Light + Magic.

Audiences will get closer than ever to Halloweentown's beloved Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington, as he attempts to take over the Christmas holiday. Against the advice of Sally, a lonely rag doll who has feelings for him, Jack enlists three mischievous trick-or-treaters – Lock, Shock, and Barrel – to help him kidnap Santa Claus. Jack eventually realizes his mistake but has to contend with the evil Oogie Boogie before he can make things right and restore the Christmas holiday. Fueled by an unforgettable soundtrack featuring ten ghoulishly delightful songs by Danny Elfman who also provided the singing voice for Jack.

A CHRISTMAS STORY (1985) is humorist Jean Shepard's vignette-laden, nostalgic view of Christmastime in Indiana during the 1940s.

The main story involves nine-year-old Ralphie, who desperately wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas -- and is waging an all-out campaign to convince his reluctant parents that the toy will be safe in his hands. Meanwhile, Ralphie prepares for the big day with his rather idiosyncratic family. For example, his brother has a strange relationship with food, and his dad is obsessed with a crossword puzzle contest. But the most important question of all is...when Christmas Day arrives, will Ralphie be the proud (and careful) owner of a Red Ryder BB Gun?

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946) George Bailey has so many problems he is thinking about ending it all - and it's Christmas ! As the angels discuss George, we see his life in flashback. As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence then shows George what his town would have looked like if it hadn't been for all his good deeds over the years. Will Clarence be able to convince George to return to his family and forget about suicide ?

My brother is planning to come over tomorrow to put it on my wall.

Definitely needs to be reinforced because of its weight.

saw 4 movies last week. intersting that most men I know do NOT like to go to movies alone & so call me all the time.. they know I am normally game even if I have seen it before.

I did see Casino Royale for second time & glad I did.. it was fast moving & I missed a few things. Same with Babel. Wouldn't mind seeing that again

Well, I picked up my van about a year ago from the transmission shop--paid $400 to have the tranny rebuilt. (Apparently, not an uncommon thing for early 1990's Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth vehicles to require an occasional rebuild after 100k miles).

Keep in mind it was a snowstorm. In Wisconsin. Where snowstorm really does mean snowstorm.

I pulled out of the place and my dad followed behind--about 600 feet behind. As I headed down a county highway toward the city--about five miles into the trip, I lost control of my van, skidded down an icy hill, hit a tree head-on, bounced BACK into the road, where I ended up hitting my dad's van along the passenger side.

Was doing 25 in a posted 45 zone. My front end was completely smashed up, and my dad's right front axle was bent crookedly outward, not to mention the body damage along the whole right side.

Sheriff's deputy came, wrote me a ticket for failure to control (IIRC, $200 and three points--12 points in WI gets your license taken away). Cars towed away. My van was only worth $600 and sustained over $1500 in damage--obviously totaled)

Dad's van was worth about $3500 and sustained about $3800 in damage (mostly along the axle).

Ended up spending $10k on two new vans.

Went to court to fight my ticket--the assistant DA waived the ticket on account of the conditions, the fact that I just paid $400 for a new transmission literally fifteen minutes before the accident, and my dad and I had to spend ten grand on two new vans...

Onyx.. there is no quiet relaxing nights here to watch a movie..with mom & "other factors" there is always a lot of tension, interruptions etc.

I treasure so much my daily outing in forest w/dogs & dinner out /movies a few times a week. My escape more or less. I cant even read the paper well.. & do that often at restaurant waiting for food. I don't really read the paper anyway..just more or less skim it.

Even last night wanting to watch A Christmas Story.. never came off.. I have great equipment here.. projection TV, HD big ones.. great speakers.. but just NOT the relaxing atmosphere.. I guess one would have to be here to totally understand.

Even my FReeping.. ..15 min at computer & then "crazy time".. for whatever length of time..

That is a terrible horror story!

I am thankful for my two beaters.. the "good one" has 125K..the "rough" one has 145K. But, both are running. I don't trust them for trips however.
