"...Alone in the car, and not wearing a seatbelt, Perez careened over 200 feet of grass before hitting a tree..." Reading this, one assumes that she travelled 200 feet OUTSIDE the car.

I don't care if I get flamed for this but I really think this story is funny despite the loss of a life. The good news - her departure raised the average IQ of her neighborhood by a full 10 points.
Thankfully, this moron didn't end up killing an innocent person on the street.

Thankfully, this moron didn't end up killing an innocent person on the street. That's what I thought, too.
No flame here.

We ALL thought the same, no doubt, but some, perhaps in the Christmas spirit, refrained from posting it...

She didn't hurt anyone else and eliminated a threat from the roads. My daily commuting wish has been fulfilled!

So many drivers feel they are invulnerable when they get behind the wheel. In addition, there seems to be an alienation between themselves and other drivers on the road, as if being inside the vehicle separates them from the reality of the fact that there is another human life in another vehicle. It's almost a road-rage like mentality where there is no personal responsibility or regard in matters beyond their own immediate needs. It's an animalistic nature that is worthy of an animal, and unspeakable for someone driving a 3K-5K pound vehicle moving at high velocity.
It is sad she had to die to learn an obvious lesson. I doubt the roads will be much safer due to the number of idiots who behave in the same manner. It's a sad commentary on our society that any of them are permitted the privilege to drive.

Reading this, one assumes that she travelled 200 feet OUTSIDE the car.And then got makeup all over the air bag? That'd be a neat trick.
To: jimbo123
This is sad but I keep thinking of the imprint of a clown face on the airbag. I know, that's in bad taste but funny.

Ironically, as cars become safer, I think any advantage is negated because people just drive faster and riskier. I have an older pickup I use for general hauling and pickup stuff. The only plastic on the entire truck is in the tail lights, and turn signals, and the knobs on the dash, and drum brakes all around. That's it. Knowing that - it's keep 'er around 50 and between the ditches. Today, we have padded dash, steering wheel, air-bags, power-brakes, power-steering, ABS, anti-lock brakes, sound-deadening materials and virtually silent engines if desired. Coupled with mandatory, full-coverage insurance on a bank-owned vehicle, I'm convinced people just don't care, since they have no concept of ownership, either financial or of their body.

Reminds me of a chapter from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil:
A truck driver was observing a woman doing exactly what this one was -- applying make up. She was also eating. And she kept turning her head to her right, but no one was in the passenger seat.
When he saw her pull over, he followed her because he was so curious. "Don't you think it's dangerous?" he said. She laughed and they talked about it.
Finally, he asked her why she was turning her head.
"Well, I have to keep up with my soaps, don't I"?

She was probably drinking coffee while applying her makeup...
