We are sitting on a major bomb here if this is even remotely accurate.

by almost anything falling from the sky, such as a falling star or a meteorite
A "falling star" would rather trump a pocket of natural gas, methinks.

If we are sitting on that big a gas reserve, how come I'm paying $2.69 a gallon?

Due to the Panhandle Reserve being overworked since the very early 1900's, there are now huge pockets of natural gas all around the PANTEX nuclear storage facility. It should be noted that all that's required to set off a nuclear device is to "surround" it with explosives that can be simultaneously set off.
If a bunch of natural gas randomly arranged and ignited surrounding a weapon is all it takes to detonate one, why do they spend all that money on machining explosive lenses to ridiculously tight tolerances and designing complex firing systems?
