Why do people do what people tell them to do? If I know I'm in the right and confronted in a situation like this, I tell the person to call a cop and we'll settle this. Otherwise, I'm outta here.

People need to develop some of that NY Attitude, I tell you.

Feel bad for the old folks, though. But a healthy disrespect for the authority of strangers has never let me down in all my 38 years!

Thought an old NYCer like you might appreciate my insight on this! I admit, my bad attitude has served me well my whole life! ;-)

Well, when the gift scam surfaced in 2004, this is what Walmart said:

“Wal-Mart says if you learn your card has been hit, you should have no problem getting your money as long as you have the receipt to verify the transaction. The receipts record the exact date, time and code number of the card transaction, as well as codes showing where the cards were both purchased and redeemed.”

A corporate spokesman says the company, " is working with law enforcement at the highest levels possible, to rectify the problem and catch the people responsible."

You can read more about it here.

So the question is, why is this still happening? I can't believe that Walmart would want to sabotage itself during the busiest time of the year, and after they have said they were looking into it over 2 1/2 years ago, it makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I agree with your philosophy. And in a related vein, why is everybody sopetrified of saying "Mind your own business!" these days? It seems like anyone is allowed to ask any innappropriate question they like, and if you object, YOU'RE the one being rude.
