I think a long-ago forgotten movie called "Joe" was one of his finest moments, long before he became a household word. Great film of a conservative father going underground to find his druggy daughter. Don't know if anyone else remembers that.
Anyway, he was a class comedian, with probably his funniest bit being in the Young Frankenstein movie when he was doing a dance in a top hat and tails trying to sing with Gene Wilder.
Gonna' miss him.
RE : Peter Boyle
He once said one of his biggest regrets was listening to his PR manager who advised him to turn down the role offered to him in the 1970's. He's still kicking himself in the behind after all these years for listening to him.
THE ROLE : POPEYE DOYLE
THE MOVIE : THE FRENCH CONNECTION.
Gene Hackman got the role and won his first OSCAR for it.
