I am astounded that there is an actual mental disorder in which someone believes she is French.

Is there another disorder for one in which people believe they are Italians, and another for Germans, etc? Just curious.

I'm not sure. But there is something clearly wrong in the case of a British person thinking they're French. That is definitely a sign of derangement.

There's definitely a lot of Susac's Syndrome loose in the top rungs of the professional federal bureaucracy, and now the House of Representatives leadership.

I don't think the syndrome makes everyone think they are French. That is just the form it took with this particular woman, as she had spent time in France.

No, Susac's doesn't make you French; Susac's just means you have encephalopathy, blocked arteries behind your eyes, and some level of hearing loss occurring all at the same time. It's the encephalopathy (essentially a catchall term for "brain damage") that lead her to be French. :)
