When did Mel bash Bush, and what did he say? I guess I missed that item.
I think the movie should be judged on its own merits. From what I've read about how it presents Maya culture, it sounds way off from a historical POV; but then Braveheart was also pretty inaccurate about the nature of the English-Scottish struggle.
As long as everybody realizes it's just a movie, that's no big deal. But a lot of people go to a movie on a historical period and seem to get their notions of history from the movie.
Mel doesn`t go for exact historical accuracy but more for emotional impact which to me makes a lot more sense. He takes a human experience and expounds on it using basic set human emotions which have never changed for eons. Someone who lived 1000 years ago or even 10,000 years ago had the same emotions, same reactions you and I have today with similar situations. Revenge, hate, love, it`s never changed and he uses all that.
For example, he could have been historically accurate about William Wallace, but that is very hard being that there is no real set historical record on Wallace. Instead he laid forth a possible premise,a possible scenario which caused this guy Wallace to become so incredibly passionate about defeating, hating the English, and what is more horrifying than having the throat of your new spouse killed? My Mother says the English also killed his kids and impaled their heads on spikes by his farm, but that`s another story.
About what Mel said about Bush, he said his new movie Apocolypto is about a civilization destroying itself from the inside out much like Bush is doing today to the US.
What Mel doesn`t realize though is it isn`t Bush, but the backstabbers, the traitors, the Brutus to the Ceasar, the Democrats. He doesn`t realize the United States right now is fighting a two front war. The war against terror, and the war against those who support terror. The war against terror to defend the United States is by far a less serious war or threat than the war against those who are here in our midst eating us from the inside out. The enemy is not outside but within us.
Consider what the press has done since 911. Nothing but do everything they can to thwart the war on terror while promoting Hellary Rodham. If she wins the Presidency next election, the US is fnished. Mission accomplished. They will have done more damage to this country than any Bin Laden, any Al-Zarqawi could ever hope to do.
Consider the Egyptians, the Mayans, the Romans, they all thought they were invincible, the height of modern man, yet they all were destroyed, made extinct. The same can most definately happen to the United States.
This is why the the second amendment exists.
