The "Celeste Aida" aria requires the tenor to reach and sustain some pretty high notes. You missed the point of my quip in #2:
That is true of Verdi's "Aida" -- but...
They were performing Franco Zeffirelli's "Aida."

I thought that the reference to Franco Zeffireli was to him as the producer of a certain version or staging of the Verdi "Aida." Didn't realize he had written his own opera concerning the same dramatic story line using the same title for the work and for the tenor aria.
