... just because the poor guy was singing the music he'd memorized from Verdi's Aida... ;-)

Why did the crowd boo him? I saw nothing in the whole article telling why.

It might not have been the tenor's fault. Some conductors are really out to get ya.

" Tenor Roberto Alagna marched off the stage at La Scala when the audience booed him during the second performance of Franco Zeffirelli's "Aida." He was replaced seconds later by his understudy, who rushed on wearing jeans. "
He pulled a tenor's version of a Kramer?

Maybe Eric Carman was another prominent member in attendance.

Classical music ping!
Sounds like something Kathleen Battle would have done.

Alagna is a very attractive man, but IMO I think his voice is overrated. He is Angela Gheorghiu's husband (she is marvelous in both singing and acting) and for a while it was popular to cast them together. I kind of thought Alagna was the tagalong in that arrangement. Just my opinion.

Italians tend to be an uncivil lot. If I were in charge of La Scalla I would have the booers grabbed and booted out of the hall, and never have them allowed back in. You don't like the performance, fine. Just walk out and maybe even ask for a refund.

One of the foremost experts on Opera is none other than Rudy Giuliani. Perhaps if he gets elected POTUS we can expect great Opera and Classical Music at the White House.
