Most common and commercial BIOSes these days duplicate the effort that the OS goes through in checking the hardware. LinuxBIOS eliminates a lot of that duplication.
THe company I work for uses LinuxBIOS to run Linux clusters. I've seen a multi-hundred node cluster boot up much faster than any single desktop could hope to. Much of the speed increase is due to the sleekness of the Linux BIOS.
