They are friggin nasty though. Never heard of them myself until I visited Tucson, thinking of moving there. Then I saw the headline that 2000 rattlers had been removed from folk's homes that year. Then, I met the javelina's. Badd attitude on steroids, locals told me they gang up and kill bears.

While beautiful, Tucson is fast growing city/primordial desert. No buffer, critters and people living together.

True in a sense. Javelinas are to the new world what swine are to Europe and Asia and the Hippo is to Africa.

All three groups fall into the sub-order Suiforme of the order artiodactyla. As a group, they are all about equally related to camels, deer, and giraffes.

I would not generally classify Javelinas as good eats.
