"Sooooo.....how long have you been telling other people how to spend their money?

Which is to say, how long have you been voting Democrat?"

Haha! I've been working for Republicans since I handed out leaflets for President Nixon in 1972. I didn't tell anyone how to spend their money, I just stated that we have our priorities bass-ackward. Please share with us which you feel is more important: a human baby or a kitten?

You make a good point. Don't let ignorant people -- who can't understand even slightly subtle distinctions, like the difference between complaining about something and urging coercion against it -- discourage you. There are many such people on FReep.

"I didn't tell anyone how to spend their money, I just stated that we have our priorities bass-ackward."

And if you were in charge, by golly, you'd MAKE sure those priorities would get changed. Thank you, Sen. Clinton.

I really don't see why the USA, with its estimated $12,360,000,000,000 Gross Domestic Product (2005 figures), should have to decide which is more important, babies or kittens: there is enough pelf for BOTH to be saved.

a kitten. cleaner, less noisy, and more fun to play with. and litter training takes much less time, too.

Nixon was one of the most fiscally leftist presidents the US has ever had... Remember price controls?

I was sort of thinking Democrat mentality in another way. Dem's think of the economy as a zero sum game. In a world of finite resources, any amount spent on A by definition takes funds away from B, and so on.

In reality, spending on A can actually BENEFIT B, as new technologies are developed from the investment that benefit all, or new capital is developed that allows new investments that benefit group B, and so on.

Furthermore, to use your logic, ALL spending on pets is immoral. Any money spent on pet food, for example is evil because it could be spent on feeding poor humans around the world. The same for veterinarians, who could better be serving human patients.

Where would you like your reasoning to end?

Why does it need to be one or the other? I spend money keeping my cats healthy. I also spend money keeping my daughter healthy.

I've had cats that I suspect had some sort of feline Alzheimers, and they required a great deal of care and attention in their declining years. The care and resources I devoted to them took nothing away from my daughter.
