A woman found a live, unexploded mortar shell in her sisters closet in Mims on Monday night, police told Local 6 News partner Florida Today.
Angela Cassell took the live weapon from the home owned by her father and drove it to the north precinct of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.
According to the police report, Cassell was helping clean her sisters closet when she found the weapon. "It was a hair-raising experience," Cassell said. "I thought it was a fake one. I didnt realize that it was live or I would have never done anything with it."
Cassell said her sister was formerly in the military and her sisters 18-year-old son just got out of bootcamp in Georgia. She said she was unsure where the weapon came from. Her 78-year-old father, whose health is ailing, owns and lives in the house in the 4000 block of Pecan Street in Mims.
She said she didnt want to disturb him by calling the police "over something silly." Her nephew helped her get it out of the house, she said.He picked it up out of closet, plopped it down by front door and asked me to get rid of it, she said.
Cassell said she was so naive that she drove around for at least 20 minutes, dropped off a passenger and moved the live mortar to the front seat of her Hyundai before she visited the Sheriffs Office in Titusville at about 7 p.m.
Cassell then pulled up to the precincts parking lot and notified an officer. Police evacuated the building as a precaution.
North Precinct Commander Jimmy Donn said the investigation has reached a stalemate because officers are working with military authorities at Patrick Airforce Base to determine the origin of the mortar. Donn said he expected to make progress in the case on Wednesday.
Donn could not confirm if anyone who lived in the house had military affiliations.
Actually, I think the authorities in London were just as upset about their "incident" and the authorities here were about this one.
I know the lymies are a little paranoid about firearms these days but you will have to elaborate on this one.
I missed the thread you are referring to.

Priceless.
Ammunition. That's so scary. You even look at it the wrong way and it explodes!
That 22 thing cracked me up!
"Well, it was stamped "HE", so I thought it belonged to some man."
I am disappointed that she did not haul it up on the roof and drop it on the driveway.
Smart like a rocket surgeon.
Looks like they need to beef up the bootcamp training in Georgia.
Heh, not just .22, but .22 short. I wonder if they're still investigating it. LOL. I would have picked it up and added it to the .22 pile.
Brits are funny! It is a bit pathetic.
Hmmm.(Bangs shell on sidewalk) I won'er what the heck is in this thang.
