In an Interview with a Portugese paper Paltrow stated that people in the U.K. are much more intelligent and civilised. "I love the British way of life, it is not as capitalistic as in America". When dining the Brits dont talk about work and money, they discuss more intelligent topics. She also mentions that her friend Madonna shares her views and is like a Sister to her..........

Europe's time of action, energy and innovation
has come and gone. Now they find themselves
mostly mired in their socialism, much as
spectators.

Those who can, DO, and remain focused on those
activities.

Those who can't, OBSERVE and criticize.

First thing I thought of reading this is the scene in The Aviator where Katherine Hepburn's mother finds talking about money boring, and Howard Hughes tells her that is because she has always had it.

OTOH, *we* have news execs that hire perky "readers" to give us bollocks-free news.

And "true" "stories" based on fraudulent documents.

When the Brits or French or Germans put a nuclear defense umbrella over me, then things will be different. Until then, stay there Gwen.

Believe me Gwynneth, this is NOT a plus in your favor!

I mentioned our Charwoman t omake the point of the UNEDUCATED knowing tons more about America than most of us do. Our friends were highly educated about America.

The very FIRST Savings and Loan that started the whole thing was a tiny little one in Clermont Ohio where my father dii his and our stateside banking, was on the FRONT page of the London Paper when it closed it's doors.

Hmmmm..... Europeans may READ more and HEAR more about America than we do about Europe, but they know virtually nothing about us. Mainly because all they are exposed to is leftist propaganda. Then they sit back and lecture us "cowboys" and "rednecks" and "yahoos" about how stupid we Americans are, and how great Europe is. If I were president of the US, my first act would be to withdraw ALL of our military from Europe. Let them defend themselves for a change. I am beginning to realize just how worthless Europe is. How, exactly would the world be worse off if it dies?

A short while ago I got into some good discussions with the Irish folks on a sports web site/forum.

You are exactly on the money with your observation - "they are exposed to leftist propaganda". I'll add to it: they are inundated with leftist propaganda.

It wasn't too difficult to counter their arguments and set the story straight on some issues. There were even a few of them that had to agree that I wasn't blowing smoke and there was substance to what I was saying.

They had never heard the other side of the story.

I disagree.

Many Europeans think they know all about America and Americans but their "knowledge" is seriously tainted by the likes of the BBC and others.

Having your facts wrong is substantially more dangerous than not having your facts at all.

Most Americans know little about Europe because Europe has little if any impact on their lives. Quite the opposite is true for the Europeans. There's a reason for that.

I loathe celebrities. Isn't this one getting old? One nice thing about age-ism is that you don't have to put up with these starlets once their freshness wears off. They just get discarded and forgotten when the next blonde with fake teeth and fake boobs comes along.

America will survive.

So will Paltrow, more or less.

There's a difference between making foolish comments in the papers á la Johnny Depp and being a traitor.

Though it does look like Gwynneth's pushing the line.

Saw her mother, Blythe Danner, in "Huff" on DVD this weekend.

Foot in mouth disease probably runs in the family.

Let me see if I follow this: Paltrow knows little about Europe because she's American; but she likes Britain because it's not America; but like any Britisher, her knowledge of America is tainted by BBC propaganda; therefore, Paltrow doesn't like America.

I have a headache.

Besides, Paltrow is a TERRIBLE actress.

Both your comments are absurd. Given the likelihood that neither of you can accurately measure America's knowledge in comparison to that of other nations, your remarks have little to offer other than a slap to the face of America.

If you insist on deriding your fellow citizens, perhaps it would be helpful to point out that Paltrow's America is that of Hollywood and not the America the rest of us belong to.

You have a headache because you didn't read what my response was to. I wasn't referring to Gwynneth Paltrow.

What I responded to.

The Westerner wrote:

"Very true about the rest of the world being better educated and informed. Sadly, what she refers to as intellectual conversation is probably just as shallow. Muddy waters appearing deep to shallow people."

stanz wrote:

"I agree. I hate to say it, but MOST Americans are uninformed and couldn't care less about what's going on here and haven't got a clue about the outside world.
I'm not a fan of Paltrow and Madonna disgusts me, but it is true that the average guy on the street in the UK is more interested and eager to know about news topics of the day."
