Police are searching for a man who ran a red light and struck a car driven by a 71-year-old Hendersonville woman who died from injuries sustained in the crash 13 days later.
June R. Irwin of Burge Mountain Road was admitted to the ICU neuro-trauma unit at Mission Hospitals in Asheville after the collision on Friday, Nov. 10, at the intersection of Dana Road and Four Seasons Boulevard.
Irwin was traveling in a Mazda at about 8:15 p.m. when her car was struck by a Ford Lariat truck driven by Rafael Quirino, 28, of Fox Ridge Drive, according to authorities.
Irwin was flown by helicopter to Mission Hospitals, where she died Nov. 23.
At the time of the accident, police issued Quirino a citation for running a red light.
Capt. John Nicholson said Friday that the charge of running a red light was dismissed and a warrant for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle was issued. Nicholson said he did not know if Quirino was a legal resident of the United States.
"We had a reconstruction of the accident performed," Nicholson said. "After that was complete, we issued the new warrant."
Nicholson said the Police Department has been unable to serve the warrant on Quirino and that he may have fled the area.
"We have had reports from people that Quirino has indicated he was moving back to Mexico," Nicholson said.
The Hendersonville Police Department has asked anyone with information on Quirino's whereabouts to contact the department at 697-3025.
Since this was first posted, probably at least "one" innocent American has been killed by an illegal alien.
