The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

What I want to know is, what's the purpose of the hole in the stock behind the trigger?

The rear hole is the pistol grip for the firing hand. The off hand grips the stock through the trigger hole. The rifle can also be fired one-handed, if necessary. It's also 100% ambidextrous.

One of these days we should go shooting...albeit something a bit smaller than that...

I still want a little revolver of my own someday. Once I feel like I'm not more of a danger to myself than to anyone else when I'm using one.

Well, another day over without my having accomplished much. Did do the little self-indulgence shopping trip this morning, and also got a few frames and a lamp shade from Goodwill. Want to hang a few more small pictures, and I've had a garage sale lamp without a shade for a long time. Nice to really be able to use it.

Other than that, I accomplished nothing. Maybe Monday, though I need to drop off the car.

Tomorrow I'm going up to Tacoma to see my brother and sister-in-law and niece. She's started walking just in the few weeks since I last saw her. *sigh* They grow up too fast.

A revolver, and not an autoloader?

(Just love the word "autoloader" ...)

Of the various things I got to try at Shootmoot, I liked the revolvers. Simpler, I guess. Granted, they don't hold as much ammo, but even so...

Though the .22 rifle was wayyyyy too much fun.

See, now I need a picture of someone holding it, or, even better, firing it ...

A revolver, and not an autoloader?

A revolver should always be the first centerfire handgun in your inventory. It's 100% foolproof and panic-proof, at least as long as there is ammo in it.

I seriesly recommend the S&W Model 640, a five-shot stainless in 9mm. Plan on searching for perfect grips for your hand, because the grip is tiny, and you want total confidence in your handling of the weapon.

I tried a LadySmith once, when they were kinda new. The grip was very ladylike ... unlike my hand, which is square and rather large.

One day, soon, DaBear and I will stop in the swanky local gun store --- McBride's --- and check out the newer merchandise.

That said: MY feet are freezing!

If your feet are freezing, you need to entice the cat to come lay on them ...

<laughing!>

How's BittyGirl? We haven't seen any pictures of her in forever!

I gots big hands, too. Usually have to buy men's gloves unless a store carries women's XL or the L is wider than most. Oh well.

It does make it easier than it would be fer some to play certain instruments, probably. And such.

I liked the .38s at Shootmoot. Got to fire a .22 revolver, too, which was again, a lot of fun. Not sure if that'd be big enough to be worth much for self defense, but it'd be nice to use for target practice, mebbe. Rather gentle compared to the bigger rounds.

I'm probably mixing terms up every which way, but you understand, I expect!

Last summer. Msdrby's aunt gave us a swingset.

Bittygirl took two whole weeks to teach herself to climb the ladder into the fort. Another day to learn to walk UP the slide.

Last fall in gradma's yard.

Christmas

I tried a LadySmith once, when they were kinda new. The grip was very ladylike ... unlike my hand, which is square and rather large.

Underneath those grips is the same tiny frame as the LadySmith, the J-frame. It was intentionally made tiny for maximum concealment.

One good thing about revolvers is the simple frame shape lends itself to easily adapt to all sorts of custom shapes and sizes. There's no mechanism inside the frame, except for the mainspring.
