OK, just saw the Danny B. piece. ROTFL! I'm sure that guy just thought he was the coolest, getting Danny to cuss at him. Gave him some street cred in the eyes of his buds, I'm sure.
What about the cats? And Rosie, where's your report? <grin> Did Cisco hold up better than Homer?
We left the cats in the house during the storm. We figured, they'd probably hide under the bed and wouldn't likely be smooshed if a tree hit the house. They're small ;~)
Rosie's cats are here now, she brought them over when she came over yesterday.
Rosie will have to write her report tomorrow, she's gone to bed, and ecurbh is snoring on the couch... I'm working on chapter 2 before I go to bed myself ;~)
Chapter 2 :~) - The aftermath
I'd be remiss if I didn't emphasize how lucky we are. To see how others faired in our area, please look at the stories and photo gallery in our local paper. Destructive winds blow through South Sound. There's some remarkable pictures in the Photo Gallery
So with that in mind here's the relatively minor mess we found.
The whole yard is covered with a carpet of branches. You can't even tell where the driveway is.
We actually pushed this old TV antenna over during one of the lulls. It had broken loose from where it was mounted to the porch and was turning and swinging. I feared it would bend and punch through the roof so during a lull in the storm, we pushed it over. Rosie's place is visible in the background.
Rosie came over around daylight and we made some coffee on the barbecue. Behind, a rather thinned out forest. The tree guy quoted a thousand dollars to thin and "windsail" the branches on just one of the big trees in the yard. I don't need it now. I'll have to find some older pictures to compare, I know it looks different, I see a lot more daylight through there than I used to, I think half the branches and some of the trees are gone. The wind was coming from roughly that direction.
The view from the back forty...
Rosie's place lost the siding in two places like this... I guess these things flapping is what she listened to all night.
ecurbh started piling up the larger branches...
And raked the driveway. It looked better already :~)
And the sun came out and cheered all our spirits. It's a new day :~)
That's all for tonight, I'm beat and can't do no more! Coming tomorrow:
Chapter 3 - The horse
Chapter 4 - Ramius to the rescue!
I went through the gallery ... the damage at the apartment complex astounded me. Those trees just came up out of the ground and tipped over!
Is the store able to pump gas?
Sounds like y'all can get some sleep tonight! Enjoy it!
I've been through hailstorms in the west that have brought down branches like that. The one thing that sticks with me is the wonderful *smell* of pine and juniper afterwards.
Actually, you have to place the story in the ~larger context~ of attic adventures. Your history with the attic is definately memoir/nanowrimo material.
Morning Hair et al
Chapters 1 and 2, wow, quite a ride that was; we're glad you all are okay; eagerly waiting for Chapters 3 and 4.
Ramius to the rescue, that's what Coasties do.
Gypsygirl waves paw to Giget, Homer and Cisco and says glad you're okay.
Hang on to your kitties! Even one kitty and a few blankets make a very good heating system.
Just amazing! Glad y'all are OKAY.
Thanks for the diary ping. I'm fascinated by extreme weather, though I'm not that interested in being in any more of it. What kinds of temperatures are you guys having? Ping me to the next insallment if you don't mind.
Morning OT - it's a bit ~ brisker ~ today than yesterday. Still Gypsygirl enjoyed her walk; church bells ringing and carols being played, was quite nice even though yellowface appears to be in hiding...
And Thanks to those who saw it before it disappeared.
Mornin'... just checking in. Still got dial tone, but the DSL isn't working. The cable is working, sort of... it's a pretty bad signal and drops out every minute or so.
I'm shocked that either the phone or cable work, given the big honkin' tree that's still laying over the lines.
Still on generator power here. Not sure what the plan is for today. Maybe go shopping.
I think the power must still be out up at the Bellevue place. I called the phone, and the answering machine doesn't pick up. So there's that.
Are you taking pictures up there? We want to see all that.
I was just pulling some pics off my camera. I'll send a few if you would like to post them along with... stand by...
Good morning all - finally got some real sleep last night, I think, I wasn't conscious. Will be writing chapter three and four as soon as I've had some coffee :~D
Sure - we'll post 'em :~)
