And not watertight...
Is is the amount of air in the packaging that actually kept the container afloat until it washed ashore?

Now being reported the containership went down in a collision with a Mexican Salsa tanker....

Dang, I was on the beach about 30 miles south of there this past Sat-Tues. The fishing was slow and I would have appreciated catching a few bags of chips.
