Cowboys release shaky Vanderjagt, sign Gramatica
Mike Vanderjagt's short, but rocky tenure as the Cowboys' kicker is over.
ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Dallas has released Vanderjagt and signed Martin Gramatica to replace him.
The most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history, Vanderjagt, who signed a three-year contract worth nearly $6 million as an unrestricted free agent this spring, has converted only 13 of 18 field goals. That's only two fewer misses in 11 games than the nine-year veteran had in the past three seasons combined.
In his eight seasons with the Colts, a tenure sometimes marked by petulance and marred by a long-standing feud with quarterback Peyton Manning, he converted 87.5 percent of his field goal attempts.
Pre or post-roid Sauerbrun?
Nope. He was lucky his teammates bailed him out.
...but usually the highest scorers of anyone on the team. Go figure!
I know. He's hit it from 20 yard too.
He better not be expecting another big pay day.
Another team will sign him within the next two days.
no but employment would probably be nice at this point.....
At least the one thing the Lions have is a decent kicker.
No doubt. Perhaps he needs to go to a team that's already out of it so there won't be any pressure kicks.
I saw it in the pre-season. There was a game when he missed nearly every FG attempt. He made one, only after a challenge was issued by the opposition on a previous play.
They sure did... Did you catch the press conference afterwards? Parcells said that before the season started Vandy said not to worry about the kicking game... he paused and then added "I'm telling you that I am now worried about our kicker." I think it took them this long to find a decent replacement.
Gramatica better not cost the 'boys a game!
This guy's status is falling faster than Culpepper's.
He's a Canuck, so he could just go somewhere in the CFL.
Much the same way a hockey goalie can loose his confidence. If you have the proven skill then the rest of it is in the mind.
He deserves better.
Or at least the next best thing.
Careful, George Blanda just might kick your ass.
That old bastard was tough.
I think he's talked about doing just that. I'm sure Peyton Manning is laughing his ass off at the news.
maybe after the season, but he must have really been regressing in practice as well.....
