... a black police officer seeking to protect a Jewish fan of a visiting Israeli team shot and killed one man and wounded another.

Antoine Granomort, 32, rushed to the aid of a French fan of the Hapoel Tel Aviv club late Thursday after the Israeli team defeated Paris Saint-Germain ...

About a hundred fans cornered the two men ... shouting racist and anti-Semitic epithets at them and making Nazi salutes ...

Both victims were identified by the police as members of a far-right group supporting Paris Saint-Germain ...

Overt racism is a common occurrence at the ... home stadium of PSG, with fans mocking black players with monkey chants and far-right slogans. ...

Granomort, who was in custody Friday while magistrates investigated his assertion [of] self-defense, was backed by fellow police officers ...

The violence began around 10:50 p.m. Thursday, according to Philippe Brossard, a journalist for the magazine L'Express [and a witness].

Dozens of angry PSG fans started pursuing Yanniv Hazout, a Frenchman who supported the Tel Aviv team, as he made his way to a Métro station near the stadium. Assigned to guard a nearby parking lot, Granomort, a plainclothes officer, first sought to stop the fans with a tear gas canister.

"He said several times: 'Stay behind me! Stay behind me!'" Brossard wrote in his account on the Web site of L'Express.

"The attackers move in on him, insult him," he wrote. "He retreats, panics, tries to leave to the right, loses his tear gas canister, picks it up again, retreats again. ...

... PSG has several factions of unruly fans [the most notorious being] the "Boulogne Boys," a group close to far-right parties like the National Front of Jean-Marie Le Pen. [Some have been barred but] dozens of Boulogne Boys continue to attend, clustering in the so-called "Boulogne" section that earned them their name...

A Jewish fan of the HaPoel Tel Aviv soccer team was attacked by French fans in Paris Thursday, resulting in a police shooting that left one dead and one injured. The incident took place at 11 PM at a McDonald’s restaurant near Paris’s Parc des Princes stadium following Tel Aviv’s 4-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in a UEFA Cup match. Paris fans attacked four French Jewish fans after members of the mob identified them as “Jews”. The Jews fled in different directions and a mob formed chasing after one of them, Yaniv Hazout. A plain-clothes policeman tossed tear gas grenades...

Two shots fired, two thugs down, mob fended off, cop and potential victim both survive unharmed. Sounds like the cop did his duty, and despite the "panic" of the situation, was a steady shot.
He'll be exonerated, and the police will internally think him a hero. They WANT to shoot back nowadays.

Btw, not mentioned in this particular story but the French police had to hold the (Israeli) Hapoel Tel Aviv fans in the stadium for an hour and a half after the game. Admittedly this was for their own safety, but on the other hand it wasn't the first time the French have detained Jews in a stadium...

Also throughout the game the Frogs waved Palestinian flags, shouted "PLO", "Hizbollah", "down with Israel," and the like in addition to chanting Le Pen's name. Obviously judenhass trumps their anti-Muslim sentiments.

Let's see...They collaborate with the NAZI's, and rail road cars owned by Societe Generale transported Jews eastward to the Death Camps yet they call Jews NAZIs.

Who collaborates with Nazis?
18 year old football fans?
Maybe if they have a time machine.
Otherwise, they're just young, dumb hooligans of the same sort that plague soccer in all the major countries.

Victims. Ha. Just because you got your ass shot, they don't necessarily mean you're the victim. Some people need shooting.

"He retreats, panics, tries to leave to the right, loses his tear gas canister, picks it up again, retreats again. ...

Reads a bit like the history of the French in WWII.

Some irony, as reported in Hillel Schenker's (lefty Jew) al-Guardian blog:

http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/hillel_schenker/2006/11/post_708.html

Three out of the four Hapoel goals were scored by Salim Tuama (2) and Walid Badir, both Israeli (Palestinian) Arabs, who are members of the Israeli national team. When the coach removed Tuama towards the end of the game to receive a standing ovation from the Hapoel fans, he was replaced by another Arab player, young Israeli Circassian talent Bibras Natco.

As for the waving of Palestinian flags to taunt Hapoel fans, it has no affect. Many Hapoel fans (like yours truly) are ardent supporters of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, alongside the state of Israel.

On the contrary, as one fan told a reporter for Haaretz, "what gets us upset is when people wave Israeli flags at us." Hapoel fans are renowned for not wanting to be "nationalized" for patriotic purposes. They support their "reds" (the origin of the team is from the workers movement), and don't want to be considered a national asset.

More irony. The French soccer fans shouted "dirty nigger" at the undercover cop, Granomort, the same epitath shouted by Michael Richards. As Schenker notes:

Racist taunts in the US, as Michael Richards discovered, cause uproar. When will that uproar reach Europe?

Like all incidents, this incident could lead to rioting in France.

So America isn't a "major country"? If such openly racist and antisemitic demonstrations occurred here (at any sort of sporting event) the venue would be closed, such events suspended for some significant time, or some other such decisive action taken immediately.

Riots in Detroit after the Pistons won.
Riots down in Miami after some game or other.

And no, America is not a major soccer country.

These white, nationalist Frenchmen are in a nation being overrun by Muslims from the Middle East and Africa and they are in fear of the Israelis? It seems that these French nationalists are as deluded as their socialist and internationalist fellow countrymen. Perhaps all of Western Europe is on the road to national suicide, but the French are leading the pack on the path to extinction.

America is not a major soccer country.

Not the point. As I noted such racist or antisemitic demonstrations at ANY sporting event in the United States (or ANY comparable sort of public event) would meet with ZERO tolerance, period. Merely excluding certain fans from future games, sending riot police to the games, etc, any such halfway measures, would never suffice here. Whatever action necessary to ensure that such behavior was stopped IMMEDIATELY would be taken. I don't doubt the entire seasons might be canceled if such events occurred repeatedly in a particular sport.

And, btw, in America when post sporting event parades and such have lead to riots (even though NOT racist in nature) they have usually been canceled or restricted in subsequent years or events.

Nice try at baldly asserting moral equivalence, but on this issue at least it does NOT exist. There is nothing remotely like the social tolerance of antisemitism (or even public demonstrations of anti-Muslim feeling) in America as there is in Europe presently and for years now.

You can pretend it's no big deal, but that attitude of course only illustrates the problem.

"He said several times: 'Stay behind me! Stay behind me!'" Brossard wrote in his account on the Web site of L'Express.

Antoine Granomort is a great hero, and should be honored in America, since he will receive nothing but scorn in France. If ADL Director Abe Foxman was not a fat hyprocritical bastard he would give officer Granomort an award and give him money for his kids' education for his heroic actions. However, since Foxman is not a real Jew, but a mere Marxist "JINO" and a hated handgun was used by the Officer, there will be no such award.
