Alabama fired coach Mike Shula less than a year after the Crimson Tide finished a 10-2 season, according to a newspaper report.
Shula told his assistant coaches late Sunday night that Alabama athletic director Mal Moore had dismissed him, The Tuscaloosa News reported on its Web site. An official announcement is expected Monday.
Reached at home, Moore declined comment Monday morning but said he would hold a news conference later in the day.
The Crimson Tide went 6-6 this season, finishing the season with three straight losses.
Shula, a former Alabama quarterback, was winless in four tries against Auburn, his team's biggest rival. The Tigers beat the Crimson Tide 22-15 on Nov. 18, leaving Shula to answer questions about his job security.

I love Spurrier. I'd have to hate him if he went to the Dark Side....
I will never forget when Auburn under Bowden beat Florida/Spurrier and the jerk wouldn't even shake hands after the game. From that day on, I have held him in the lowest of regard, slugs have more appeal, even slugs doused in salt.
Then again, beating Bama year after year has lost some of it's glamor, perhaps Spurrier will heighten the game another notch. I sure would be tempted to give the next finger (past the five on this hand) to Spurrier. Shula had class and my respect, a Spud won't.
Spurrier had no respect for Bowden. turns out he was a good judge of character. Tuberville and Spurrier are good friends and golfing buddies.
BTW, Columbia news stations have been reporting that Spurrier and USC agreed to a contract extension and a raise. Looks like the Evil Genius played Alabama like a Stradivarius.
