That Silverado commercial generated a lot of debate among automotive marketers. Those on the left were upset because of the commercialization of King and Parks. Those on the right were upset because it portrayed the U.S. in a negative light.
Chevy still uses the same John Mellencamp lyrics but not shows different (non-controversial) visuals.
Unfortunately, auto manufacturers pay too much attention to their ad agencies, which are more interested in being provocative than selling cars.

That Silverado commercial generated a lot of debateSeeing the clip of a wildfire in the commercial did it for me. It was airing a week after those five firefighters were killed in California during a forest fire.

Yeah, Chevy is getting a lot of flack for that commercial.
Personally, I despise that song.

I saw some of the Silverado commercial, for This Is Our Country, that were positive. I think they were marketing the commercial for specific regions. Didn't care a bit for the hippy version
Weird they just showed one of the commercials
